Hi,

Just a thought...I know certainly a few months ago, there were places in HK especially on Ebay who were selling 300mm to 500 zooms for about £500..

Did anyone on here actually buy one and how do they focus? Extremely good or like through a jam jar? Common sense tells me that they are likely to be as sharp as a babys bum, otherwise we'd all pay £500 instead of £2,000 plus for a Canon or Nikon etc. unit. But ya never know

Certainly not interested in getting one but this is just out of curiosity.

Cheers

I think you can be confident in getting what you pay for ;)

It would be interesting to see the results from the lens but I really think that pxl8 will be right. I was looking at getting a really silly 2000 mm lens or something daft like that from ebay (more as a toy that anything) but didn't in the end. I work with a few people who have the need for cheap high quality optics and they found a russian supplier of really good high mag binoculas. They were dirt cheap but they gave a top result and you could use them as car jacks they were that sturdy but its all a bit of a gamble - a bit like OEM batteries, some as absolute pants others are as good as the genuine article but you have no way of knowing.

The Sigma 170-500 zoom is reasonable and is £520 or so. (New from Mifsuds; £339 2nd hand from Mifsuds)
