Hi all, first time on this forum. I am looking at getting a medium sized camera bag, but don't want one of the conventional ones, reason being, security.

It needs to be padded, or the ability to protect the contents and have a section for an iPad, must be strong, durable and the abilty to hold a tripod. Have thought about a satchel type but rucksack is probably the best option.

Had a brief look on google, but surprisingly difficult to find. Budget for it will be up to £100.

Would appreciate your views on products you may have used or seen.

Thanks

Tamrac do a good range of shoulder bags and rucksacks. I can vouch for the quality of them too. Well padded, well made and good sized. Not the cheapest but not the most expensive either.

I think you'll have difficulty finding what you want.

Any bags that can hold a tripod will clearly look like a camera bag! :)

As for as hard wearing, well built, inconspicuous bags, check out ThinkTank or Billingham. But I'm not sure they'll be in your budget....

I'm a fan of the FStop Gear range of bags.

Thanks for all your help so far guys. Regards the tripod was hoping I could fit a travel sized one inside the bag.

I know you are probably thinking "how big does he want it?" thing is I have 2 young children so can always put some of their stuff ( dry, like clothes etc) in a lower compartment.

Basically a padded rucksack, thanks for your help.

What do you mean by security ?

As in keeping items from damage or theft

My interpretation was to avoid Lowe Pro etc as thrives know that Lowe Pro camera bag = lots of expensive camera gear. Plain or obscure bags are more likely to go unnoticed.

When I go to Central America next year I'm intending on having my tripod inside my FStop Satori EXP, however that is a 60L backpack, so a bit bigger than a normal camera bag.

OP - What size does your tripod fold down to?

I've got a GEM backpack which is supposedly a copy of the Lowepro computrekker in all but name. GEM isn't a well known name so won't be targetted like lowepro would. As for the bag itself, there is plenty of room for camera+lenses+flashes in the main compartment, a large bit for accessories and you can buy the model with the laptop insert for your ipad. I got mine off amazon for about £35 (Search for gem camera bag).

I have a Crumpler backpack (think its the Brian's Hot Tub model) whilst not perfect it is very well made, doesn't look like a typical camera bag and you access equipment via the back section i.e the bit thats against your back when you're wearing it.
