Nokia Vodafone

I like Starbucks.
I don't sit hugging my coffee as if my life depends on it.
I'm certainly not sorry they don't serve the kind of slop you seem to survive on.
If you don't like the places, don't use them, it's quite simple.
No need to be quite such a d*** about it.
No need to get defensive, just because you like the unhealthy stuff. It's just a cup of coffee ffs, just put the kettle on at home. (y)
I don't use them, but towns are littered with them, you can even find them in other shops. We have 4 of the main culprits plus a few small independents in our town, complete overload, we even have two Costa Coffees inside work ffs.

Unless someone's forcing you to use them, why get your knickers in a knot?

I never put the kettle on for a cup of coffee. Yuk that is just disgusting coffee.

All coffee is disgusting. Doesn't matter whether you have made it yourself or not. (y)

I do make it myself, but never by boiling a kettle. It sounds to me you've been unfortunate enough to have never tasted a proper cup of coffee.

Yeah, and protein shake outlets are sweeping the planet with their yummy offerings.

You don't like coffee (or anything that could ordinarily be classed as food, it seems), we get it.

I've tried it, it's nothing to get excited about. (y)
It's just a drink that gives you an energy spike, from which you crash and you're left needing another, until you feel you can't function without it. That and you can hold it, whilst everyone sees how cool and fashionable you are.

You don't frequent many gyms then. Most will sell you a protein shake and they don't need to litter every few yards of the high street or take over part of other shops.
I prefer to research the powders on offer, find those which actually work rather than full of unnecessary fillers or sugars, some are just fads, then make my own shakes at home from those I know, work and won't empty your bank balance every week, because their "recommended dosage" from one tub won't even last a week.

Obviously you haven't going by your earlier comment. If you had you honestly would have made that remark.

Not sure why you think coffee ishop fashionable, it's a very old drink. Has been around a very long time.

In fact one could say that more readily about fads like protein shakes and other unnatural foods. But I wouldn't dream of trolling and taunting that fall for that. If they like it well enjoy it.

indeed, just because some companies have tapped into the growing popularity suddenly its a fad..

starbucks > costa. i'd love a beans to drink machine at home but the cost puts me off. i'll settle for my chemex and aeropress with grounds for the time being :coffee:

How are protein shakes unnatural. They are made from natural healthy food ingredients. It has just been turned into a readily available consumable allowing for a easier and greater intake as opposed to trying to eat the food every two hours. Coffee has no health benefits.
You only have to look a the growing number of coffee shops on every street to see that they are fashionable, full of people getting their fix on a coffee and a stodgy sugary pastry to disguise the awful taste of coffee.

You're missing the point.
Why are you so bothered about there being coffee shops in town, or in the likes of Homebase or even work, if no one is insisting you use them?
I don't see the need for so many betting shops, but no one forces me to use them, so I walk on by without feeling the need to bitch about it, or make stupid comments about those who do use them.

I'm afraid it is you that missed the point.
dejongi questioned why we no longer had street cafes and wine bars, I answered it was a fad that changed. Now we are unnecessarily inundated with coffee shops that seem to be breeding like rabbits. I haven't made any stupid comments about the people that use them, just an observation on the people that use them. An observation that has obviously struck a raw nerve in your case, but dejongi has laughed it off and recognised it in himself.

up until about 3 years ago I had a Nokia 8210 - it'd been my "works issued" phone when I had a day job, and I basically scrounged it off the IT guys when I left there. Stuck a new sim in it, and just kept with it... Only decided to swap because the supply of original batteries were all a bit iffy - i'd had 3 on a row that lasted less than a month before losing charge - third party ones were worse. It still works fine, to be honest, and if I could get a reliable battery source i'd go back to it tomorrow... Quite like the idea that it's a phone - just a phone, not a really titchy computer, trying to handle emails, be a satnav, browsing forums, and all that crap - it's just a phone.

You make me feel older than I am now. The GM of the company I was working for wanted me to trial the luggage mobile phones. Big briefcase battery with a hand set on it. As it was a big American firm with a healthy expense account what better way than to hit the restaurants and bars in Utrecht down by the canals to sit eat drink watch the world go by and make phone calls. I got almost as much attention from the opposite sex as having a puppy with me. Was great :)

But we soon moved to the Nokia 2210 GSM bricks when the new network came out. Much more secure communication.

Ha Ha - I also had one of these a Motorola IIRC - I still remember just after getting it walking down Deansgate in Manchester when it rang - I had to put my briefcase down - put the phone down on the floor ( it was bloody heavy)and pick up the receiver by its curly cable to answer it all with people looking at me incredulously. Cool - NOT !! People were fascinated by it though - it had a talk time of about an hour with a battery which was about half the size of a car battery - ahhhh the 80s

I had the same phone as the OP as a first phone. Pretty sure it's still i the cupboard and I'm sure it would still work. I've moved to smart phones now though as I prefer the big screen plus I can use it as a whole host of useful gadgets in one. Sadly none of them are as well made as that old Nokia, not even the Nokia ones! (Though my Lumia 720 did take a LOT of abuse before finally giving up).

The bad thing about those old, chunky reliable Nokias, is the Hipsters have now suddenly discovered them! Oh no!

perhaps a good time to sell my immaculate boxed examples :)

last week I dropped it in the car park at the local shop and had to ask a young man to go on his hands and knees to retrive it from under my car

Mmmmm, a likely story. ;)
