Yes
Does anyone have this phone. The reason I ask is that I have taken various photos with it, none worth showing on here yet, and the largest file has been 2.40 mb so far. The camera is rated at 12mb.

I could quite easily be doing something wrong, though.

Mick.

Your phone is rated at 12 Mp not MB. 2.4MB sounds about right, dependant on the detail in the picture.

They do say the file sizes from the N8 is "compact".
I dunno why that is, you'd expect something around the 5mb mark for a busy 12mp jpg I would have thought...

My wife got one of these phones last week. I'll check what results she's getting.

The 40 or so pictures she's taken so far vary in size between 1.4-1.9MB.

Quality's been a little hit 'n' miss so far, though.

Ive seen samples of the n8's camera shots and i think the quality is good, also low light video looks ace in comparison to others

Check the phone camera settings. It may not be set to taking at 12mp. I don't know what the N8 defaults to but it might be defaulting to something more conservative as few really need 12mp on a phone.

From everything I've read and seen, the N8 is effectively the best camera on a phone, ever. You should be able to get some pretty good results.

Considering one myself.

The camera is very, very impressive.

This is very much a quick and dirty comparison, but here's a couple of images of approximately the same scene, one taken on an N8, and the other on a Nikon D700 with 28-70 F2.8 lens. Crops are 100% of about the same position.

Nokia image straight from the camera. Nikon image taken in RAW and smart sharpened 100% @ 0.5 radius.

Yes I know, to compare a cameraphone with a pro-SLR and lens is somewhat meaningless, but the point here is to show how far cameraphones have come. While I'd never consider the N8 a replacement for the Nikon, it's output is impressive, and it's a heck of a lot more portable!!!!

which ones are taken with the d700?
:D:D:D

The N8 defaults to 9mp not 12mp out of the box. Had one at the weekend. Had to return it as it kept freezing and crashing :( Really hope the replacement works as the camera is really good and my N86 has gone on the blink even more than before. That also took a good photo.

Anyone compared the photos from an Iphone4 to an N8?

Nokia always managed a decent camera in their phone, even my N73 took cracking shots:

I was looking at a few of the samsung phones but lots of the ones I checked out didn't even seem to have a flash which put me off rather.

Just a shame Nokia's CEO couldn't see how good some of the new phones are now. Instead, scrap the whole lot and bring in Windows Phone instead (who are bottom ranked in the smart phone OS business).

Still, the hardware will hopefully remain top quality. Just suspect the Windows Phone camera software will be rubbish though.

Well with ANNA due soon and Nokia's known build quality...and with the N8's metal alloy body and gorilla glass........i hope to keep the N8 for a very long time as love it soooo much....as far as windows phone's go...they will be getting a big miss from me.
