Yesterday my sons and I went to the Brooklands Festival. On the saturday they were offering passenger rides in AMG Mercedes cars on a small road layout in the confines of Mercedes Benz World. The people living in the neighbouring houses actually called the police and complained about the noise, so yesterday it was turned into a kids early drive driving lesson instead. Just how much noise can a few powerful saloon cars really make especially when the nearest house is a few hundred yards away. Ironic thing is the event was to celebrate the Double 12 races they held at Brooklands years ago. They wanted to hold Le Mans style 24 hr races but the neighbours complained about the noise then so the race was held from 8:00am to 8:00pm on a saturday and 8:00am to 8:00pm sunday hence the Double 12.
It must have been awesome to see the cars racing around the banked circuit
Sadly the majority of the banking is now gone with just one small section left.
What you see in the photo ishalf of whats left with about the same in the opposite direction and boy is that banking steep, I had to walk up it backwards with a heavy rucksack on my back for balance. My 11 yr old son took half a dozen runs at it but could never get more than 3/4 of the way up.

We live about a mile away from Rushmoor Arena where they have stock car racing on a Sunday morning - it's loud enough to wake you up!

the thing is that there are a large quantity of people who move close to racing circuits which have been there for decades, and then they complain about the noise, which as far as im concerned is pathetic, however im unsure about brooklands as it has been non operational for many many years but you'd like to think that the local area would respect its heritage and put up with a small amount of noise ocasionally for such events
