Noiseware noise removal

As being said on here before the noise removal tool in Aperture leaves a lot to be desired so I've taken out a 15 day free trial with a Noiseware plug-in, here's one I did earlier.....

wdythink? I thought the software was quite easy to use, after the trial expires I have to pay $79.95 - don't know that that is in £'s?
Anyone used this plug-in? WDYT?

I suppose if you're not entering your pics in camera club competitions, and all the scrutiny that the pic goes through, then it shouldn't matter. I've found since I've had my 7D then noise really isn't an issue because last winter I was taking pics in low light at up to 3200 ISO with no noise problems, the problem arises after trying out Nik/Noiseware plug-ins the pics look a lot better for some reason.

I'm surprised you need to use noise reduction software on a ISO 400 image.

You could also try Neat Image which I only use on really high ISO images.

I'd just acquired the Noiseware 5 plug-in and randomly chose the ISO 400 pic, will be trying it out on much higher ISO's when I get a bit of time. Does seem strange to have to use a plug-in to eradicate 'noise' when my 7D hasn't really got a problem even at up to ISO 3200! but I find using this plug-in really does improve and 'finishes off' the image extremely well

Noiseware is excellent although the default presets tend to be a little aggressive for me. Its the only PS plugin i actually use.

Generally on my 550D (same iso performance as the 7D) i need to use it on ISO800 and above. ISO400 sometimes - depends on the shadows and scene makeup.

Try not to use it as standard. Noise reduction will kill fine feather detail on birds in particular (your example gull photo seems to show that to me).
Best practice is to use layers and masks to apply noise reduction selectively just for the background, leaving the bird and any finely detailed areas of the photo untouched. Unless theres massive amounts of noise in the photo of course. I still use it sparingly on feathers even then.
