Hello.

Ive been out tonight photographing a mates car but I had to up the ISO as he was also riding/doing tricks which I was photographing. I used ISO 2000. I have read the 60D is good at 1600 ISO and good at 3200 ISO but 2000ISO isn't so good. Anyway, I need a program to help reduce the noise and I hear there are better programs than photoshop to deal with noise?

Please recommend away.

Thanks.

Beav,

DFine2 which is part of Nik Software 2011/2012 packages is purpose built to reduce noise and does it very well.

I'm not sure whether you can get it as a stand alone plug in for Photoshop.

Hope this helps.

Andy

What are you using for RAW processing? Most have pretty good NR features.

Have you tried DPP, the software you should have had when you bought your 60D? I find it very good and use it when required.

The latest version of Faststone also has very good noise reduction and that's free. :)

You could just duplicate the layer apply a slight blur then do a soft blend back to one image this works well and you won't loose too much sharpness

This software has just started to appear on my radar and I was wondering if anyone was using it?

I've used it and it's good. Since I do most of my processing in Lightroom 4, I also tend to do my NR there and I'm not convinced that Topaz DeNoise is any better. Which says more about LR than it does about DeNoise. They're both excellent, IMO.

I might try Lightroom out. Do I need to then use another program to add borders and signatures to the image though?

I seem to recall reading that you can do this kind of thing in the Print module but I don't use them myself. I'm sure someone else can answer this one.

Its easy enough to just re-open it in photoshop to add signatures etc anyway

EDIT: Do you not add signatures/watermarks to your photos?

You can add borders and signatures in LR4 but you can also get a programme called LR/Mogrify2 which is excellent and adds better functionality to LR including internal and external borders; signatures; watermarks etc.

Here's a link to a good article

And direct to the software (which is donation ware)

Sure can Andy. I use it from within PS CS6. Like all other Nik software, it rocks.

I used to use 'Neat Image', but that was before I had the pleasure of U Point technology. :)

Another vote for Imagenomic Noiseware
