Hi all

Im looking at getting a noise reduction program as struggle with low light when photographing owls etc late evening early morning, is there a good software out there or is it possible to get the same results with LR. i have searched around but didnt seem to have much luck getting any before an after pics, so if anyone has any can they post up with what software they used please. Ive heard topaz is good ??

Thanks in advance

I use Topaz and Nik Define2 ... both are quite good but Define2 has a brush option so you don't have to apply the noise reduction all over, you can use it where needed.
The down side is perhaps that you cannot buy Define2 on its own as it is a part of the whole Nik software package, but well worth the relatively small cost for the number of plugins :)

I use Nik Define or Noiseware.

both do cracking jobs.

I you want a photo ran through each one to compare just give me a shout.

andy i may get you to do that im not at home with my pics till later tonight if you look at my flickr page you will see what i mean an they have had noise reduction via lightroom

Topaz Denoise $79:99
Nik Collection £95:00

Adobe ACR, has de-noise sliders under the 'Sharpen' heading, whist Lightroom and Photoshop has some de-noise processing available but it is limited (IMO) unless you work with layers.
The advantage with Nik Define, as stated above, is the ability to work with it in Brush mode :)

Thank you gramps i have been using the LR reduction but wondered if the others would give me a better finished image, thats why im contemplating buying one of the above. do you have any before an after examples ???

Probably a few but to save me searching here is an extreme example of an attempt to make something of a far away Osprey ... just so that I didn't come away without any souvenirs :D

It's not the best example in terms of finished product but I think it does demonstrate a little of what it can achieve :)

Thank you gramps that seems to hold detail better than LR does
Are you on mac or PC?

im on a mac andy ?

I have Imagenomic - pretty good and very controllable.

Noiseware pro and topaz seem about the best, a few years back I did a comparrison, then noiseware came out tops on the image I tested, things have moved on since then though, I suspect topaz has the edge now.
