Noise on kit lens

Hi, I'm worried about my kit lens which is a nikon 18-55. When viewed closely the quality is rather poor with lots of noise. I know that a high iso will cause this but I always shoot in raw at iso 100. Is the kit lens at fault. Can post examples if this helps. I'm going on holiday next week and don't want to have wasted shots. Thanks for a worried shooter
 
All images are noisy if you look close enough. I wouldn't worry about it.
 
It won't be the lens that's causing the noise, post an example and your exif data so we can find the fauly etc :)
 
If your getting lots of noise at 100 iso then look at your exposures, under exposure pushes up noise if your having to lighten your images a lot in photoshop or whatever.
Also check your iso is actually 100 and not on auto as the camera will alter it up if it needs to(which can make noise worse).
 
One of the big shortcomings of digital sensors is color depth. Each pixel can only record R/G/B and there's 2x more G pixels. This leads to color noise where a G pixel should really be blue... Nothing to do but learn to apply noise reduction "correctly."
 
What is the camera? The lens wont affect the noise thats down to the body. The lastest nikon kit lens is pretty damn good... its just not fast and I suspect that your bumping up the iso for higher shutter speeds hence the noise
 
Hi phill, thanks for reply. My camera is 3100. I think the problem lies with a -1 exposure comp to get nice colours in a sunset. When in pp have adjusted lightness and this I believe can cause noise. Never in landscapes have shot above an iso of 200. The is no need. Thanks again
 
Examples please ? I have a d3100 and whilst its not what I ( personally ) call acceptable over iso800, it will go much higher.

From what you say, perhaps the issues is what you are doing in PP ?

Seems to me you require some nd filters. This would darken the sky and thus you wouldnt be boosting the shadows which causes alot of noise in the lower end cameras.

Thanks for all the help, have some cheap nd filters brought of eBay but wish I hadn't. They were poor quality. . What sort do you recommend I get mark?
