Denbigh town has bottom and top of town. Top of town below, bit of rivalry between them at times :)

1 is lovely, the valley with the hills behind... But I like 2 better with the houses and castle being framed front and back by the landscape.
Lovely. And making me jealous!

I'm like Graham prefer the bottom one, beautiful place to live though.

Thanks Graham and Gary, I also prefer the 2nd but gave in to my daughter’s opinion.

Really need to up my game in editing though instead of just pressing auto in Lightroom

Both nice shots but No2 is a lot more interesting! A good start to the year :)

Nice shots Keith, although I'm with everyone else and prefer the 2nd shot.

That's a lovely area to be in and some lovely light on the scene.

Blimey, I thought someone had taken that first picture from my garden! My view is very similar, but of Dartmoor in the distance.

They are two good shots, Keith, with some lovely colours and a sense of open space in the first, but my preference is for the second one with the rows of rooftops and the contrast between the modern buildings and the castle on the hill, all framed by the hills beyond. Good luck with your 52!

Hi @nog - I'm also going to go with some of the above comments.

I prefer the second pic. Arguably captured juxtaposition too.
:headbang:
Why didn't I think of the juxtaposition for the second pic, actually mentioned juxtaposition for an old house and London in background of another pic in the 52

Thanks, sometimes we don't appreciate it enough.

Quite similar some areas. Our son lives in Okehampton, so we go down 3 or 4 times a year. Few times whilst down in Devon one of the family has said "wow look at that view" and sometimes someone will reply with that's the same as at home

Thanks, pretty unanimous on choosing the 2nd - think I will have to have a chat with my daughter for selecting the first pic:)

Week 2 Incomplete
Jubilee tower, Moel Famau
The tower was built to commemorate George III golden jubilee
The foundation stone was laid in 1810 lack of funds meant that the tower was never completed.
In 1862, a major storm brought down the incomplete tower.:) The remaining upper part of the structure was demolished for safety reasons leaving just the base. Most of the rubble was removed from the site; smaller stonework was reused by local farmers for dry stone walls.

Well I'll be...! I had that down as a Spanish or Canarian mountain top! I googled and see how far off I was. I think the fantastic blue sky threw me!

Perfectly on theme, cracking sky contrasting well with the snow(?) in the lower part of the image. Like it.

Thanks, would have been quite impressive if it had been completed and yes snow and blue skies on 16/1 - gorgeous day and that evening I was on Amazon getting some warmer gloves :)

An interesting place and good pic of it Keith.

Week 3 Artificial

Artificial candles

Family Christmas tradition seems to be going:
Get out of attic
Why aren't these working
Fit or replace batteries
Use for a couple of nights
Put back in attic
Bah humbug

Decided to go with the first one

Definitely the first one for me, the colours contrast well.

Nice bit of artificial abstractiness :)

definately the first with the soft orange glow for me too. Great black background to set them off against

Your area - both meet the theme, there is more to keep my interest in the second one
Incomplete - the sky looks great in this photo with the lack of clouds helping to focus my attention on the ruins
Artificial - We have a similar set to the second photo, debatable how much use they are. The tones in the chosen one are pleasing.

Catching up. Two great images Keith.
Incomplete: great framing, love the commentary
Artificial: I like both images Keith, your chosen one for the simplicity and the other for the visual interest of the colour and varying heights of the candles

Two lovely images, well exposed and composed. I prefer the first for the simple colour palate. Three of anything always works too.

Cheers, its a bit more subtle than the 2nd

Cheers, I put some black material behind the candles, could still see some light on the background so just adjusted shadows in Lightroom to fix it.

Thanks, agree with about how useful the candles are

Thanks. We can see the tower from our garden so the 52 was a great excuse to go up there for a walk - luckily on a lovely day, last few days would have shown different shades of grey or mist.

Thanks, yes the second one is a bit gaudy
Yes, definitely the first one for me Keith. Lovely image
Cheers

Week 4 Transparent

Paper weight

P1291191.jpg by Keith, on Flickr

Tried using GoPro in the pond but low light, fish not co-operating and could not control GoPro from my phone as lost signal when GoPro was under water so results were meh - found out later there is a work around by wrapping coax cable around GoPro and other end near phone- might try one day :)
GOPR0102.jpg by Keith, on Flickr

Tried taking a picture of bright clothes in the washing machine but apparently optical quality of the perspex? door was not a high priority so results were even worse than the pond picture:(

I like both shots Keith but you chose the right one for the main thread.

Lovely detail in the paperweight - but I think the underwater shots of the fish has potential. The water looks good and clear and it's a world we woudlnt normally see!

The fish are obviously curious about the camera... I'd be more tempted to use that as a "fun" element. Your paperweight does the trick too.

Thanks, bit more detail with the paper weight but was conscious of having virtually same set up as I used for artificial

Thanks, I expected the GoPro shots to be better, it might have helped if I didn't have to set the self timer and plonk the GoPro under water and hope for the best :) Think I have some coax cable somewhere to try the work around

Thanks, the fish were having a look at times. Will have to look at extending the GoPro selfie stick as my hands got a bit chilly in the water- about 2c

Week 5 Snapper's choice + juxtaposition

Plan was for dogs with one of the lovely sunsets we have had recently, ended up tonight in the garden using OFC for first time. Subjects didn't seem to understand had to try and get something tonight. Can only get better, hopefully

Juxtaposition as both dogs are labradoodles
Charlie, on left is 50/50 and Nel is 75% labrador
Apart from the visual differences:
Charlie loves a massage, any TV programme with animals on, David Attenborough and if offered a treat checks it out before tasting carefully
Nel loves fetching the ball, fetching the ball, fetching the ball and if offered a treat eats it then checks if she can get Charlie's and she does not watch TV.

Lovely looking dogs and well-captured. Perhaps ever-so-slightly lighter, not much, but a tiny bit so the eyes show a little more might be nice.

Loving the dogs at the moment.

Fine pair there, just caught catchlights in their eyes and enough light (just) to show their colours.

Lovely dogs, lovely back story and a lovely image... the subtle lighting really brings out their features.

They look like a cheeky pair. Well done for getting catchlights in their eyes.

Thanks. I agree bit lighter would be better, should have spent a bit more time setting up using the camera bag as the model, dogs thought it was ok for a couple of shots but soon got bored so called it a night

Week 6 Knobs

Went for the ball head shot.
P2141880.jpg by Keith, on Flickr

Liked the knob at top of light house but thought it might be pushing the guidelines a bit. Light house built in 1838 after 130 people were sadly lost when the Rothesay Castle sank.

This small cabinet was given to my wife a few years ago by a retired cabinet maker, we used to talk to him at the local pub. He had built a new bar top when pub was refurbished, my wife told him how good it looked and following week he gave her this cabinet. Used brass screws as knobs :)
Sadly the bar and cabinet maker no longer with us. Pint glass for scale, didn't open top or drawers as full of bits and bobs, should have straightened up a bit before taking pic :headbang:
