Key Points
  1. David Cameron and Ed Miliband begin by debating need to protect UK from terrorism
  2. Ed Miliband then accuses the PM of being "frit" of taking part in election TV debates
  3. David Miliband says the Labour leader is "chicken" of being in a debate with the Greens
Three of the key points from today's rabble debate. Get the important item out of the way quickly then get on with the trivia.

Brothers disagreeing, never!

I rather like Bill Bailey's description of Ed Milliband: "Like a plastic bag caught in a tree.....No one knows how he got up there and no one can be bothered to get him down." :-)

...and many are hoping the next strong wind will solve the problem for them?

He pretty much nailed UKIP too: "Sozzled berks whose only policies include an electrified fence at Dover and no women in the bar area." :ROFLMAO:

Mind you, I am amused by the latest 'idea' which I am told is to have an empty chair at the debates to represent Cameron. Now this could result in the other parties having to debate each others policies, which is likely to be pointless at best with a major party missing and defeats the object, though probably watchable. Or more likely knowing what our current politicians are like, they will spend the entire debate bitching at the empty chair and not actually debating anything and it will be an utter farce of epic proportions. We will all need to get the popcorn ordered in advance of this, because there is likely to be a national shortage :D

Just had a read of the rules and the "No Politics" bit has been removed. Could be a problem in the next few months. TV and papers are full of the election already. Please can we keep TP free from all that hogwash?
(You just know there will be arguments!)

ok, religion and politics... several points. The forum has grown up and moved on, subjects like the Charlie Hebdo killings are WAY too big for us not to allow the discussion amongst adults, ditto the Scottish referendum, etc - so if we allow those, it would be rather hypocritical not to allow similar discussions on any level of either subjects. The original intent of those rules was not actually to stop the subjects completely, it was to prevent active electioneering/proselytising but it can be difficult to draw the line, so was often easier to just delete/close ANY thread of that nature.
However, our approach to it now is allow such debate, and just moderate where needed, including anyone that is obviously electioneering/proselytising rather than just stating their own opinion. Usual rules apply, if you don't like those threads, don't click on them, if you see something unacceptable, RTM it and if we [the royal we] agree, it will be dealt with, maybe publicly, maybe behind the scenes. If you are joining in, the rules are you debate the post, not the poster - in other words no personal attacks.

So as you were... or weren't if you don't really wanna read this one :D

You can't trust metric politicians like the milli-bands. It was better when our politicians were imperial like Michael Foot and Paul Inch.

Steve.

Yes, an empty taxi arrived at H of C and Ed Milliband got out.

Amen ;)

When I was young my mother used to tell me that all politicians are willing to come down to the level of the people who elect them at election time, but they will never, ever, allow the people who elect them to come up to their level. I used to think she was wrong, I don't now.

She also used to say that if ever a honest politician walked into parliament Big Ben would fall out of the bell tower, it's still there. :D

But in fairness, complaining about politicians or politics based on PM's Questions is like saying you don't like photographers because of the paparazzi....

I think the next 4 months are going to be the most interesting times politically for the last 20+ years in this country. Perhaps an era where coalitions become the norm and finally a move away from the two party system and perhaps even yah-boo politics (or maybe not) :)

Are you sure about number 3? (You might be - I just didn't think DM was back on the scene yet)

That must be a misprint. I copied and pasted the item from the BBC website.

Politicians are just fine......... with their mouths shut

"I wanna be elected...elected...elected" (Alice Cooper) says it all

I preferred this place with the no politics rule..

No point in having a thread for non photography related things and then censoring what can and cannot be used in a thread..as long as it is not aimed to incite hatred or victimisation..freedom of speech #jesuischarlie

Going to be the dullest election in a long time.
Not one leader capable of doing much more than tying his own shoelaces.

And enough with the jesuis bollards already.

Still think you got the brothers mixed up!

In other news David Cameron also says what happened at Charlie Hebdo also justifies increased monitoring of communications - so to defend our freedom of speech they are going to monitor what we say... riiight

whats that quote about a people who would trade liberty for security deserving neither and losing both

The only people who fear monitoring are those with agendas to hide, surely.

true , but monitoring is only a step away from censorship , and that way madness lies

The only people who fear monitoring are those with agendas to hide, surely.

There is a lot of truth to that, but...

The people who are sceptical and suspicious of monitoring are those who recognise the sacrifices made by previous generations to secure and defend our freedoms.

Monitoring may well be a useful tool, and somewhat justified, but it must be questioned and scrutinised at every level.

Totally agree......and bring in id cards .......if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear

the main thing i'd fear about ID cards would be the governments basic incompetence , and propensity to b****r up everything they touch - also ID cards wouldn't stop terrorists , these are people who can get a forged biometric passport (or in some cases a genuine one entered onto the system by a corrupt official), how long do you think it will take them to forge an ID card - hell you could probably do it in photoshop
