Does anyone have any experience of 'No win - No fee' litigators ?
My understanding is that these firms take most of the money if they win but I'm more interested in the morals of my case than the money.
It is an employment/contract issue.
I would appreciate any recommendations.
TIA.

I know someone who used one recently. They asked for 33% of any compensation but were negotiated down to 25%.
The claimant was satisfied with the outcome when the case went to tribunal.

A neighbour's son was seriously injured in an accident at work, almost didn't survive and will never work again
Should have been a fairly straight forward compensation deal but these vultures got involved
They employed all sorts of private specialists and even a barrister, which came out of the money he was awarded
so received around £30,000 of the settlement as the rest went on cost which should have been paid by the defendant but
the firm just wanted things settled asap.
I know from previous experience that personal injury claims can take a long time to settle but the no win people
didn't even try

Absolute scum is what they are - avoid like the plague. :exit:

A long time ago I rang ACAS for some advice and they were very good. They asked me if I wanted to go forward with a case but I told them I didn't as at the time I felt I couldn't deal with the hassle and stress to which they said that wasn't a problem and they'd do it all for me. I politely declined and went my own way armed with their advice and I got a good outcome.

Maybe give them a call?

that's horrendous
i had an accident at work nearly 40 years ago which wasn't exactly life threatening but did alter the outcome for the rest of my life and received that kind of sum all that time ago
all solicitor fees etc was paid by the other party and that included fees for a QC
it's criminal how they get away with such practice

I used one once. I was deliberately knocked off my bike by a van driver which left me a bit roughed up, plus a well damaged bike. The driver continued to be a dick about it, I would normally let these things go but decided to stick a claim in more for a bit of payback than anything else.

I am generally pretty risk averse to I wouldn't have attempted it at all without it being no win no fee.

I represented my son at an employment tribunal. He was awarded of £2k in lost pay etc. All we did is stick to the truth, point out what was in the contract and ask to be awarded a fair resolution.

They failed to pay so we went to court, got a CCJ (they never turned up) and in the end, the Sheriffs went into the bar and threatened to take almost all the stock and the music/PA equipment. They paid quite quickly after that.

At one point in the tribunal, I actually looked at the other guy and said "All he wants is what you owe him, nothing more, nothing less." To which he responded "We owe him nothing". Well that didn't go as he planned then did it

I think of them as some of the other law firms offering say to get your marriage allowance tax rebate, I used the governments own website and got all the money due in a couple of weeks, firm on Fb wanted £100 plus 25% of tax due back, at least Dick Turpin wore a mask.

My daughter got knocked down, and employed a legal team on a no win no fee basis.
She was awarded a substantial sum, and the other parties insurers were liable for all the costs, so she got the full settlement.

This is the big gamble with no win no fee types. You may win but if costs are not awarded you can end up with very little.

I know of one instance where the defendants offered to pay out of court, the no-win lawyers wanted to go to court, and although they won the case the judge didn't award costs as the case could have been settled beforehand.

No win no fee suggest wanting to sue for damages but you say its an employment/ contract issue which suggests you are looking to take the employer to a tribunal. Thats a completely different kettle of fish. ACAS are an reconciliation service and not a no win no fee legal out fit. If it is a legitimate employment issue then you are supposed to raise it with them first and they will attempt reconciliation first for free.

I had a telephone conversation with a man in a local firm of solicitors who specialise in employment issues giving him the brief details.
He said that, from what I told him, I probably have a ‘good case’ and if he took it on he charged £160 per hour + VAT.

Did he also say how many hours he thought would be required to take it to a successful point? And also should it go to court if 'win or lose' who would pay the court costs?

I have no wish to make money out of this, and I certainly have no intention of losing money, but to cause some annoyance as what happened was totally unnecessary and unkind - a breach of contract.
I'll probably/almost certainly drop it once I've calmed down a bit.
I've 'been there before' but this time it hurts more due to the present situation.
