Yes
The more I get into photography the more time I want to spend doing it... It's frustrating in a way as my life is really busy at the moment and I rarely get that day to myself to go out and take pictures... I am getting married next month so with all the prep for that, my 50hr on average working week, a flat for sale and the ongoing trials of life I rarely get any time for photography... and it really annoys me as at times all I want to do is have a day to myself off out taking photos.

My photography has moved on from a day out sorta style to one of wanting to shoot landscapes so I want a real proper day at it... which you cant do unless you are with people who understand the need to set up... possibly sit for 20mins waiting on the right wave or light. Why cant you just be happy taking that same pic like you used to is what I get where before I may have simply hand held and got an ok shot... but not the stunning ones I now strive for. I think photography at a certain level becomes quite a solitary hobby, certaily landscape stuff and unless you get the time to do it... very frustrating!

Is this just me or as others have got more and more into our hobby... do you find you need more time... and a resistance off better halfs to understand your need for time and why you now require more time!

... and before anyone says it... I should prob spend less time on here and more out shooting... but my time on here tends to be snapshot time... like at work on lunch... or popping on on a quiet afternoon where the office is dead!

Is it just me?

Not just you at all m8

When not doing Wedding/Portrait stuff I long to shoot landscapes - but they need so much time & planning I know it's just not going to happen - so it's good that I love shooting what I shoot & get paid for too

Come 'Lottery win day' it's me, a camper van and a Blad & 50mp back on tour :)

DD

I find that also- but try to "make time" wherever possible. Even if that means taking the camera into work & going out at lunchtime.

Saturday and maybe a few summer evenings is the only time I get, and that's assuming it isn't raining, the light isn't flat and dull, or something more pressing doesn't come up. Yes, just want to be out with camera and not a care in the world.

If i won the lottery or whatever it would be just travel Asia, the middle east, other parts of the world with camera and credit card...

I should have added... my fiancee is actually a tog too... and a good one she has a really natural eye... but she is only a tog to a point... she is happy with the level she has reached and never strives for more... she has a 450d... and likes a day out taking pics... but at the same time can leave it and not get into it as I do... it's a weird one and one I cant figure out... why is it that she does not need the time I do...

I totally agree, I always want more time to take photos and it is growing more and more, there is always something else that you will be doing I guess instead of taking photos and making a decsion to do that instead

At the moment the evening light is best from lets say 20:00 to 22:00, how many of us are out at that time or are we in talking to our partners, watching TV or just relaxing?

I think it comes down to priortising our time which is not always easy as we can't be selfish we need to think about the Missus and house

Not sure where you are but if you fancy arranging a time to shoot some photos give me a shout

Yeh it's funny... I think if I won the lottery I could just travel round the world and be happy taking pics...day after day... I'd try to come home and sell them etc... but would not be too bothered if I did or did not...

I think my ideal job would be a freelance tog who got gigs with national geographic... or the BBC doing their natural history stuff! But at the same time i'd never have the guts to go pro and give up my job to do photography... I like the saftey net of regular income

I think I actually might get the time in a year or so as by then in the big scheme of things we should have moved house and our lifes will be more settled. There wont be as much to do... mind you that new house will prob need this and that done... Like some have said I need to be slightly smarter also... maybe get up and go out before work etc... also a bit more single shot planning... get a good idea then nip out just to get that one shot... I have a stonker... well I hope in mind just now... but completely the wrong time of year so will wait to the winter when it's dark as im travelling home... and I should get it...

Maybe then bruce i'll give you a shout... at the moment things really are so busy though im prob best just chilling about it rather than getting worked up...

One thing I def need to do is not get too carried away on my honeymoon too... as I need to rember im there to enjoy myself too and not just take photos... a real problem I have on any holiday... as allot of the time its all I actually want to do!

I am with you all the way here... work, kids, life... I can't remember the last time I got to go out and do some landscape stuff. :'(

All we need is now is rain to **** on my parade the first time I get an opportunity to go out!

I'm in a similar situation to you, I get married in august and it seems like so much time has been taken up with that already. I also have the same dillema for honeymoon, but hopefully the other half will want some nice shots to remember it.

The positive for me is that we moved house a while ago so are pretty settled and I'm self employed so I can make time a little easier, not that I should though!

Keep going, your time will come! hopefully, literally!

Oh you are not alone. I ended up getting a compact for family days out because I could not stop for 5 minutes never mind an hour waiting for the shot I wanted. It's just not worth taking a DSLR on holiday.

Campers are great for doing that kind of stuff though. I've twice taken off round Scotland in January just to get that out of my system. Going to go to the lakes for a few days in August too with EdinburghGary and his merry band of campers and it's great to be around like minded people.

Got the van, got the blad (although it's a old film one) now all I need is the time......................

Your definatley not alone ..... I moved my job nearer home so instead of leaving at 6am and getting in at 6.30pm and travelling 200+ miles a day ... i now leave the house at 6am and get in at 6.30pm ( if im lucky) and now spend more titm out of the house on call out, but now do 80 miles ..... i used to be able to get some great shots and time to take them whilst roaming oxfordshire .... now im my home area .... i get no time to pick the camera up let alone use it ..... heres hoping for a lottery win

I'm glad it's not just me.

I think I could afford a D3x If i'd never played the lottery and saved instead :D

Only just agreed to a day to myself, when my wife said would I like to go line dancing I said no.

You go line dancing and I'll take out my camera, first time last Tuesday and went round Ingleton Falls, knackered me up... but enjoyed it.

Have to cut out at least one day a month for youself.

I was really fed up of trying to get shots while walking our dog.

I agree. Its a good idea to make one day a month your day for doing your own thing. Your new wife will probably appreciate a day to do her own thing too.

But don't get suspicious when she agrees to the agreement a little to quick.:suspect:

I am the oposite... she never seems to want to have a day to ourself... we were both only children but have completely diferent views of our experiances... I enjoy time on my own... where as she hates it...

Too many.

Quite often I hear the words I haven't got time for that when talking about doing various things. It is always from people who spend three or four hours in front of the TV every evening.

Steve.

I wish I had that problem... time to watch tv... as I would not watch it and use the time to PP or go out and take photos... especially in the evening...

The biggest issue in weekday evenings with me is by the time you are home had dinner etc... its about time to go to bed...if you are getting up at 6am to get to work...

My working week is 35 hours :) I feel so lucky! Spend a fair bit of time in the garden shooting flowers and other macro shots. Need to make use of the home studio setup and get some portraits shoots going ;)

Just find a day to go out by yourself and see what you get - don't let the weather hold you back, especially as summer approaches.

Looks like there is a few of us getting married soon! I get married in August and yep, all the weekends are taken! Anything not taken up with wedding stuff is taken up with me landscaping our garden! When we are out my fiancee is quite good and says she's happy to wait while I take a picture but even that doesn't allow me the time I'd like to consider the shot, without feeling guilty, so I tend to rush it a little so we can move on!

She's got her hen do next month so I might try and get out then... you watch, it'll pour down!

Richard.
