No point in buying a newspaper then ...

personally i feel that we have a duty to learn about and understand key global issues, so that we can tell when we are being lied to by politicians, and can make an informed choice at the ballot box, and more people would do so if the red tops weren't so full of dross and fluff

EXACTLY!!!

I am staggered that some people are willfully ignorant about things that do effect us.
We've had people moaning about "an undemocratic way of being governed by Brussels", but if people feel so strongly about it they can all vote for a party that would withdraw from the EU. That's how democracy works.
We've had people dismissing the atrocities taking place in Syria, and Israel's vile new moves against a two-state solution as "Syria and Israel have been doing that for years". World affairs are our affairs. To think otherwise is ignorant.
The UK is a member of the United Nations, NATO, the European Union etc. It has responsibilities that extend outside of its borders.

i think people who dont vote in elections should be banned from voting for 'reality' tv shows. that'd sort it!

send her one of those 'flash' mob videos ;)

I cant say the news of a pregnancy is affecting my access to more important news much.

Now why didn't i think of the flash mob videos????? :D must go look for some.

as for the news. i'll leave it there

Well, one could argue that they do no worse a job than the people we elect. In any case, we have an undemocratic way of being governed by Brussels!

Last survey done said that the majority people support and like the royal family, so keeping them would be the democratic thing to do. They give a lot of happiness to people. Just ignore them if u don't like them, in the same way millions like eastenders - I just don't watch it.

And one could argue they don't really do any 'job'. We wouldn't need to elect a Royal Family if they didn't exist - many countries cope without Royalty. That's my main gripe, it's just a tradition this country has had and gladly accepts.

Supplying people with happiness is purely subjective - class A's supply some people with happiness too.

Comparing Eastenders and the Royal Family...

no but we would need to ellect a head of state, e.g a president, and i'm not sure that president blair , or president cameron would be an improvement.

there is also the issue that the monarch is head of the church of england - so they would need to ellect/select a papal figure

...is quite interesting. An episode of East Enders costs ~£150,000. Four per week of those, as I understand it, so in excess of £30,000,000 per year of license payer's money.

The Sovereign Grant for 2012/2013 will be £31,000,000.

I'm horrified to read of peoples' willful ignorance of the world around them, but ...

Now where's my copy of Autosport.:D
Probably in my bathroom :)

I've just remembered the story of how an Irish motor racing friend was toilet training his toddler some years ago. The child's mother said 'Do you want to use the big lavatory, like daddy?' ... so the kid picked up Autosport and took it with him!:lol:

Surely the old Expand and Fart (Exchange and Mart) is more absorbent?

Now that's about all any motoring magazine is fit for, no?

:exit:

I bet you'd both care when the grocery deliveries couldn't get through due to the lack of fuel!

Run the lorries on cooking oil, I still couldn't give a toss about Syria.
