No more tax discs

One of my customers is a traffic warden. I was removing his tax disc holder and I asked him about the new rules and whether hed and to check disc and if he will still have to. He told me that they did have to but it's now no longer their problem :jawdrop:

I have just been to look at another car(used) today ,I noticed that the tax disc was still on the car and asked him the procedure now regarding the tax on the vehicle ,I was under the impression that I would have to tax if I purchased he said no ,I can buy the remainder of the duty of them, it was taxed until may and he worked it out at £190....added to the list price ,funny how the original forecourt price was £190 above what it is now ,doesn't bother me either way but was under the impression that tax was to be handed in and a refund issued....

you might find that regardless of what the sales person is telling you the previous keeper on the log book will automatically be refunded the remaining tax ( november onwards ) because of the new rules starting october 1st
the tax disc in the window would become invalid

to be on the safe side i would decline the offer of paying for the tax and just re tax the vehicle anyway if i were to buy the vehicle

That was my thinking too

Seems open to even more abuse then,
they say they will be caught by CCTV and the "system"
But I really can't see that.
How many cars are registered ( some won't be anyway ;) )
and how long to collate the information to find out who is and who isn't?

You can check if your car is taxed using the above link. I just checked my new car I bought 1st Oct. The garage sorted the tax out for it but I had no proof with me having no disk. I didn't doubt the garage but doesn't hurt to check, it is my responsibility after all.

I have been looking at adverts for a camper van and a motorbike, still lots of adverts out there with long road tax included !!

More and more govt departments and police vehicles with ANPR now, you won't be able to drive down the road without a police, dvsa or dvla camera van being there soon (not to mention the automated static cameras).

The new regime might be quite a money spinner for the govt.

Interestingly, it lists my car as grey. It's blue.

Hmm, it is in beta mode but seems odd to have the colour wrong. I checked my last 4 cars to see what was still on the road and they were all correct. Not surprised that my old Punto didn't appear!

I wouldn't worry too much, it's down to manufacturers having loads of different names and an operator having to guess what it is. I used to have a dark blue/grey car, the manufacturer called it something grey, so the log book said grey. To look at it, it was more blue than grey

I'm not too bothered Chris. It's a dark blue, definitely not grey (although it does need a good clean ;)) but I can't see it causing any issues.
