Not worth selling even with a 29171 shutter count , no one wants a D300 camera with all this now, so just lying about in my office
 
I can relate!
I have a d80 with less than 5000 actuations that appears to ne of no use to anyone:(
 
No as I don't think anyone would want it now ,The MH21 charger was over £100 new- lens new over £900 _camera over £1000 new + the Batteries en-el14a cost over £100 each+ nikon grip. What I would be able to sell it for would be less than £200 or there abouts so not worth it which is why I have not advertised it anywhere

I'm in a similar position with my old D700 - but at least the lenses etc are still going strong on the D800 and D850.
 
That D700 is one a yearned for when I bought the D300 but out of my price range at the time. A really nice camera. Everyone wants the latest, understandably, but the older cameras like ours are still very usable that lens being The DX lens works on my D810 but really made for crop sensor cameras and i wouldn't split any in the photo
Yours Dave are ok with the D700 being a FF camera

Robert. like anything else it is only worth what people want to spend even though it is all in excellent condition

MPB have a D300 camera for sale at £199 listed as
Condition: Good This camera body is in good overall condition with some cosmetic signs of use. There are significant marks and scuffs to the paintwork on the body, and several shiny surfaces. The rear LCD screen has some heavy marks. The sensor is clear and free of scratches. The flash mount shows signs of wear. Please note: Missing port covers. Mine is in far above condition than that you would have a job telling it was not new. As i said cameras like this are just not wanted any more, but infact ideal as starter cameras that have plenty of options in the menu.

Lenses aside, it's the same for all consumer electronics though - no reason cameras would be any different, but there's a market for 'collectors' for the iconic stuff. It's driven by the 'exponential' growth in functionality in the early days, where a model 6 months newer will have a lot more capability than the older one, but thankfully, it tails off as it's constrained by the laws of physics (sometimes, you just can't get that much smaller / faster, until the next step change is discovered!).

We're seeing it now with cameras - really just incremental improvements in the recent models, meaning recent but slightly older models hold their own against the newest and best (which is why we are seeing more features appearing in software rather than optical improvements, to get you to perceive a bigger gap than there is).
 
I also have a load of Nikon stuff to get rid of, nothing seems to be moving on the classified section at the moment (Time of year?)
I've posted a couple of things to test the water and told people to name their price, but still no takers.
 
Funnily enough I have just bought a used D300s , as I had a couple of M/F lenses about . It still turned out the goods as well .. stuffs not selling well at the moment due to Xmas and Brexit should pick up again around feb time
 
Have you looked at what people are actually paying for stuff like this on eBay or used gear sites? It might be a small portion of what they set you back new but they’re far from worthless or unwanted. There’s probably £500 of value or more there. If it’s really not being used, trade it in and have a great weekend away or buy a new lens....

Classifieds on here are very quiet generally these days. Everyone seems to use Facebook now which I hate but that’s how it is...
 
I wonder if one day cameras will be almost given away as a loss leader to get you into a particular system.
Same as Sky boxes and phones on specific contracts, might be a good ploy for the first company to try it

People have already pointed out to you that there's considerably more value than that here. Are you saying that if you found £200 in the street you wouldn't bother to pick it up? Stop whinging, and contact MPB or LCE or one of the other second hand dealers. Or alternatively carry on being a drama queen if you think that's more enjoyable.

Is your drive and garden full of old cars because when you came to replace them they were worth so much less than what you paid for them? Is your house full of old CRT tube TVs, VHS video recorders, etc.? If not, then why should you be tripping over redundant camera kit and bleating about it?
 
From time to time, manufacturers have special offers on kit which gives a reasonable bonus on trade in. I got over £250 for an elderly D70 with sticky rubber against a body a year or 2 ago.
 
Seems to me that because something is shown as no longer used you assume that it is up for sale. makes one wonder if it was worth even posting about it on here. If i wanted to sell it I would have put it in classified or on ebay a long time ago.

You stated it was not worth selling, and folks are telling you it is.....
What do you expect folks to say?
I specifically asked if you'd tried to sell it.
If you'd answered that you'd no intention of selling, then you'd have saved us from trying to offer encouragement.

Just saying as we see it, maybe it's how you put it across. "Not worth selling" but then giving the shutter count anyway, reminded me of a sale thread is all. It is definitely worth a few bob, I mean, if it's worth nothing I'll take it off your hands :D
 
If you don’t want to sell it, does it’s value even matter? Maybe from an insurance point of view but in that scenario, low value is an advantage.
 
Have you thought about getting it converted for IR?
 
Bodies prices just drop and drop, just how it is. I could not believe I bought a good d7000 in the summer for about £185.
Roll on when the d500 can be had for under £500 used

Not a bad idea at all! or at the very least give it to someone you know that has the passion for photography but can't afford a decent camera. The D300 even today is a great camera in the right hands -

I have a basically new 5d4 with less than 150 shots on it sat in the bottom of my wardrobe.
If I thought I could get much for it I'd sell it today.

The only reason I'm keeping it is I can't bring myself to lose a shed load of cash.
 
You do not lose anything when you sell such kit, you actually stop losing money and have cash you can spend on new stuff that will depreciate

I had a big clear out at the start of the year, got rid of a D300, D700 and D800 because they were just lying around and it felt good

In truth, my enthusiasm for photography as a hobby has been declining for a couple of years now.

I have £6000 worth of gear doing nothing around the house. Perhaps it's time to cut my losses.

Worth £6000 or cost £6000? very unlikely to be appreciating in value, keep what you need and lose the albatross is my feeling
