Hi all

What I would find very useful is that when people display images a little more info was made available. Lens type, focal length, aperture and shutter speed would be very helpful, especially when Exif is not available.

Just a suggestion from a beginner to help me that may help others.

Many thanks.

Unfortunately people are using the "save for web" option which removes that information. You could always ask.

i must admit when i started out i found the exif very helpful, and more and more pics are now sans exif, to bad imo, flickers a b****r for this, why do they strip it?

John, go to www.photome.de and download this and when you install it you can just right click on an image and it will give you the EXIF ***NOT ALWAYS*** though but if EXIF has been included then this will show you it. It is all in english even though it is a german webpage.

I do have similar software installed and can read Exif when it's there. However some upload pics with exif not available.

I also like to have a look at the exif data to see what lens and settings have been used. :)

Flickr only retains the exif in the original uploaded size when posted on the forum (if it was not stripped out by the user using save for web before uploading).

However, if you use the new flickr BB code option, you can click on the pic that is posted on the forum which will take you to the poster's flickr page, where you should then be able to view the exif.

A quick demonstration. This pic has no embedded exif, but click on the pic, then on Actions > View exif.
