No dSLR allowed on Wembley Stadium

Here's a thought... maybe we could come up with a more sensible set of guidelines as to what gear can and can't be taken in? My immediate thought would be based on lens length (not focal) and diameter of the front element. That would tackle most of the "pro" kit and the issue of someone spoiling the view with a 400mm f/2.8 resting on the head of the person in front ;)

Any other suggestions for how to decide what's pro and what's not?
 
Oh I agree it's "Pro" isn't something you can classify but it's the term Wembley uses so I'm suggesting a simple way for the stewards to make a decision between what's allowed (pro) and what isn't (not pro).

I'd agree with that statement as well, I went to top gear live last week, my lad wanted some pics of clarkson hammond and may so I ended up watching most of the show through a viewfinder, hardly got a shot worth bothering with as it was so dark.
Leave it at home and enjoy the day, they'll only be files on your hard drive 6 months from now

Just the demonstration "race" against Will Hoy before they go off to the Sports Personality of the Year do. Had LH won the WDC last year, he would be a shoe-in but this year he's got the succesful Olympians to beat.

Ah, it's against WILL Hoy! I read the earlier post that said Chris Hoy and thought, that's not a very fair match! :lol:
 
Something like a Panasonic TZ5 would be ideal for an event like this, very compact but nice huge optical zoom, and the quality is pretty good as well.

Also, completely agree on the photography vs. watching thing, it's the reason I almost never photograph fireworks displays, you basically miss it if you decide to photograph it.
 
Keep one eye on the view finder and the other on the action. Takes a little practice but it is possible.
As it's liable to be chilly inside the stadium, smuggle your camera and lens inside your coat. They only check bags on the way in. Once in, your ok. There is enough drop from one row of seats down to the next not to get in other peoples way and any panning movements are going to be short.
 
Does anyone know if there is any isues with taking a DSLR into Murrayfield in Edinburgh?

Im thinking of rugby games mainly!

And no jokes about why would you... Scottish rugby's that bad!

I've send them another email asking about camcorders....not allowed....stupid....all compact cameras can shoot video and they allow them heh

A friend of mine went last year, took a nice flask of hot coffee for his family and it was confiscated at the gate!!!!!!!

Im going to the Race of Champions. I'm not taking a slr though. The last time I went to the stadium (Foo Fighters) the whole set up I thought was rubbish.
I wouldn't want any of the staff there to confiscate my gear. And I wouldn't want it left out in the carpark either.
Why not bluetak an old mobile to your DSLR.......Tell em its a camera phone!
 
Hello all, first post.

I too am going on Sunday (health permitting) and I too am desperate to take my camera. I don't think I'll be able to go again due to money issues and as this is more or less my only chance now to see my Michael I want to record it. These Wembley rules are so fickle, there's no way of knowing what to do. I can't afford to buy a new camera just for this event and to be honest, I won't out of principal.

I've decided to take my camera. I only have kit lens and 70-300 so hopefully the 70-300 won't look too big. I'm not bothering with my 16-55, I might as well leave it at home if I take that. I am taking a (rather inadequate) compact with me for closer shots. If they refuse me access I'm just going to have to nip back to Charing Cross station and stash it with their luggage leaving facilities. I'm really disappointed as I convinced a friend to come on the basis of 'we'll get some really good photos'.

I'm also quite peeved that it was never mentioned at the time of booking the tickets!

Anyway, this looks like a really good forum so I'm off to have a lookski round.
 
That has seriously annoyed me! Went last year and got some goodish shots on my compact, but i was really looking forward to taking my SLR :razz: I am on the bottom row, block J this year :)

Also i agree on the thing about missing ome of the action when you are taking pictures!

And they will stop me, i shall be wearing 4 Schumi hats, and "Schumi" written on my head :P

They confiscated my air horn last year, i knew i wasn't allowed but tried anyway haha!
 
1, remove the lens release catch n tell them to try n remove the lens
2, put the entire camera into a wooden box and say its your pin hole camera.
3, have it air dropped from the sky within the stadium
4, take a telescope
5, take just the camera body only
6, get someone else to take a lens only
7, take a wrestler like triple H with you to carry it in
8, find someone with one leg and have the camera mounted inside his/her prosthetic leg

just to name a few ideas.
