Now this may just be me.:D But I seem to be seeing this more and more of late;)

Blah Blah views and no comments :eek: Now I know this happens . More than it used to . But lets be honest its getting very busy here. And well if everyone that posted commented on another shot in that particular forum then I am pretty sure the no comments threads would soon be over and done with...

How can we have so many people saying they have had no comments .. are these people not commenting themselfs:shrug:

Just a thought

So if you post a photo and get no comments . just think how many photos have you passed by that had none either:shrug:

Its a variation on a theme though from
the recent threads that have been running about people
not taking the time to respond to critique or general help

I have noticed recently that it also seems to be on the increase

There was a thread recently on the same topic - started by Edinburgh Gary I think.

As a result I regularly check the unanswered posts section and make an effort to comment on at least one. Only seems fair.

It does seem frustrating that some of the 'frivolous' threads on the OOF section seem to get considerably more responses than some of the posts on the other sections seeking help or critique.

I also think that there are more and more "mediocre" shots also appearing
If its something that I can help with I will
If I can't I'll keep my gob shut ............

as my Mum always says if you can't find anything good to say
then say nothing

I often go into the unanswered posts and try and reply to a couple Theres nothing worse than making the effort to putting a shot on and getting no comments
 
Some sections just move so fast now,that is a problem. Birds for example.

No idea what can be done about it.........:shrug:

Personally I try to visit the unanswered threads as often as possible, but just occasionally I'll see a posting that just leaves me stumped for a comment. Hard to believe I know, but there ya go...

I always visit the Unanswered Posts.

Sometimes I comment, sometimes I don't.

If I can offer praise I'll comment.

If I can offer a possible improvement I'll comment.

If the photo is not my cuppa tea, I'll keep quiet.

If the photo is very poor, like most others I'll keep quiet.

For me if 50+ people have looked at my post and have not said anything then that means the picture(s) not up to much, or it's something that's been done to death.

I'm glad someone else has picked up on this I thought I was being paranoid :nuts: Previous Thread. Obviously a sign 'o the times but the main screen on TP lately is just full of classifieds.

To be fair though I did get some response Other Thread and so I just put this down to me being too impaitient.

I think it is more important to comment if you have some -negative points you don't like rather than just a short +positive comment/s.


A few positve comments does go a long way to boost confidence though.

PS. Just checked the sample thread above and I had 233 views with only 13 replies (5 of which were my responses) :shrug:
 
I must admit I'm guilty of posting a few photos and not having the chance to reply to other peoples photos.

However, the rest of the stuff I do on here should make up for it :p
 
Isn't it odd though any shot in the Nudes and Glamour section doesn't get left unanswered for long. :thinking:
 
I think that giving constructive crit to those pics that you think are mediocre or poor is probably more valued than those great wow pics. These shots are often posted by people as they are beginning their DSLR journey, and they probably need help more than others.

I know that my first pics I posted were utter crap, and without time and effort from members on here they would still be 100% in the gutter. I know that sometimes it is hard to give crit to come photos, especially without sounding rude and negative, but I really do try to make the effort.

As rants go, this was a fairly good attempt for a beginner but it didn't really 'wow' me. The composition was reasonable but has room for improvement. You made valid points which everybody appears to agree with. A couple of grammatical errors, notably missing apostrophes, and a spelling mistake. On the whole, a fine effort and I look forward to seeing more contributions in the rant category from you. :thumbs:

Tough one, I'd take one reasonably detailed or constructive reply to a set of pics I posted, over 20 that just said "#4 for me" or "good shots", as that doesn't really do anything to help anyone. I love sharing pics here, but I could count on one hand the number of genuinely useful replies I've had when sharing photos.

That said, I'm guilty of posting such comments myself so I can see why it happens, sometimes there is very little you can say, so maybe it is better if I/we didn't say anything at all in those cases.

I think it does depend on how often you post yourself though, there are a couple of guys in the Motorsport forum who always get more replies than others, but then they also generally take the time to respond to other posts themselves.
 
I think most people on here, especially those who have been around for some time, will take the time and effort to reply to threads, particularly those posted from new members. However, what one cannot do is assume that because of the increase in membership thus an increase in threads and images posted that there will be a corresponding increase in responses to those threads and images. If one has to look through more and more images, then it's safe to guess that not as high a % of those images will receive comments. There's simply way too many to go through, especially in the sections already cited where the increase in posting is significant such as motorsports and birds.

If I post an image that receives no responses, then I guess it means the image is not good. If I am looking for specific feedback, I will perhaps make that clear in my original post, but do we all specifically post images in the hope of receiving comments, or do we post images that we just want people to look at...?

Personally, I feel there are two types of post that I make;

1 - post to show what I have done, and are of images I like. I don't mind at all if these receive no replies.
2 - posts I make where I know on the image I post there is room for improvement, and feedback/advice is the order of the day
 
I love looking through all the photos and if I like the shot then I will say so I am in no way able to criticise or comment as I am a mere learner in all this (goodness know if I willl ever be good enough to offer any help, but it is a hobby ) but I do find it helpful when I post a picture, whether it is good, bad awful, beautiful, stunning, and it goves me a real boost when I receive good comments but not to upset when I receive bad comments, we all have to start somewhere. :shrug:

I love receiving the comments on how to make it better etc so please keep them coming I find it invaluable.

I tend to look at the photos that interest me in awe sometimes and then that inspires me to go out there and have a go!!!

I have often noticed posts where there have been many views and very few replies.
Don't like to see that, but it may be possible to improve matters if posters would put some thing in the header that gave a clue as to the content.
If the header is vague or mysterious I have found myself looking at the post only to find that I know nothing about the subject.

No, I don't think so. When I had more time and was regularly posting bird pictures I tried to view and comment on others images in that section as well, and most of the people who regularly post bird pictures also comment on many other pictures.

You do get to know whose pictures you like looking at and look out for them posting but this is not a clique, more a mutual appreciation society but still look at others images as well :). I imagine it is the same in the other sections but if everyone who posted an image also commented on other people's then everyone would get at least a few comments or critiques.

TBH I am getting to the point where I don't want to post up any pictures here. I spend like a whole day trying to get some good shots and the processing them as best I can. I put them up here for some constructive crit and get maybe 1 or 2 replies. This is my only real outlet for opinions... My family just say how great they are, real useful... And my mrs wouldn't know a good picture if I slapped her round the mush with one.

Id much rather people just "nah there crap, give up" than bloody nothing.

I have even been thinking of posting my frustrations up here but didnt want to whinge so i'm glad this thread opened up.

I comment on as many others as I have time to....

When I post up pics I spent a whole day working on, and see 50 views no replies I get really disheartened and think 'Why the f*** do I bother'
 
I am quite amazed at some of the posts that have been made within this thread.

Come on folks... it isn't as if this forum owes you a response to anything you post, there's no contract that has been not adhered to is there, and there is no obligation on the part of anyone here to respond to any threads. The forum allows the opportunity to do this, but nobody owes anyone anything.

It seems that there is an expectation from some members here that this forum actually owes people a response, and quite simply that isn't the case. The forum allows people the opportunity to post their images, and affords other members a similar opportunity by allowing them to respond to those threads should they want to. To make comments such as thinking 'Why the f*** do I bother' won't make you many friends I guess.

I feel one needs just to be patient, and if no responses are forthcoming but they were requested in your original thread, then simple a polite response in your own thread after a few days to remind people you were after feedback could be what's needed to get people to reply and post comments on your images.

... and yes, I agree with you D.S., but still, there is absolutely no obligation for anyone to respond to any threads or posts on here. It is entirely reasonable for you to expect a reply given the description of the forum, but the owners of the forum provide a facility for others (including themselves) to have the opportunity to respond should they want to.

Also, you said it yourself, that you respond to others as you have time to. Well it might be that others will also respond to you when they have time to too... :)

As I mention, a simple polite reply to your own thread asking for feedback and comments is all I should think it would take to get you the feedback you're after. Not much to ask is it...?

I know it can be disheartening. I'm guilty of looking without commenting. But I do comment. I've had some new member's pictures open in one of my browser tabs for hours on end trying to think of something to say just because it has had lots of views and maybe none or only one comment. Just because there are no comments doesn't make it a bad picture. It can be very difficult to say anything other than "great picture". On the other hand it can be equally difficult to criticise when all you want to say is "crap picture".

And then there is the rare occasion when somebody responds badly to criticism, doesn't accept it, argues. I've only come across it a couple of time though.
 
I am guilty of looking at photo threads and not commenting, but that's because I really don't want to comment unless I've got something to say and don't post "nice pics" just for the sake of it. I've had many pics only get a couple of comments, it really doesn't bother me that much.

Of course, if the threads are anywhere else on the forum, I'll post any old drivel just for the sake of it! :D

Unfortunately this is on the increase
and has been "noted" many times both openly and by PM's, by me and others

"bad reactions" total ignoring of said constructive criticism, and even sometimes the complete removal of the images.

And of course the lack of manners by a few not responding to help or helpful critique

I think that it is more a case of people only offering "help" or other "useful advice for those that have the courtesy to respond.
So I guess in one way or another "cliques" are begining to form.

I am not sure, but I guess so. Even the gentlest ( is that the right word?) critique has on occasion been met with toy hurling / feet stamping
In "their" defence I guess its tough to learn that the "masterpiece" "they posted" was not quite the Mona Lisa.
But F'crissakes just learn from it I did :thumbs: ( I hope :D)
 
Just hit the unanswered posts button to do my bit again and only 8 threads have gone unanswered. Seems that everyone's been making the effort! :clap:
 
Critique is great as long as its constructive. I made a post in the welcome forum, merely to have someone comment on my spelling! I signed up to the forum to learn as well as to share my photos. I know I'm not very good yet but hope that I always take advice on board. At the moment I dont feel "qualified" for want of a better word to comment on too many posts. But I am having a blast looking at all the photos, looking at the advice and getting inspiration from those that know better. All that said (and I know it was a bit of a waffle), I know how dissapointed I feel if no-one comments, so will make the extra effort from now on.
