Yes
I'm new to flash photography and interested in off-camera flash. I bought a Nissin Di866 Mk II recently but have problems finding a remote radio trigger that will work with it. Hahnel Combi RF would only work very intermittenly so I returned that and bought a pair of Pocket Wizard Plus II transceivers expecting these to be rock-solid. But I can't get the flash to fire from the test button on a PW attached to the flash as receiver (via PC sync port) let alone fired from a second PW actig as tranmitter. I'm expecting it to be as simple as putting the Di866 in manual mode, connecting teh PW and switching it on, and pressing the test button. I find it hard to convceive why this won't work (barring some problem with the PC sync port on the flash.

Am I missing something? Has anyone else had a similar problem with Nissin units?

Many thanks

I've been using PT04cn's with my 866 and have had very very few misses with them

@rserdetuk - thanks. That's interesting. Maybe I didn't need to invest in the PWs!

obviously there are limitations on them but they were the only ones at the time that had been confirmed to work on the 866's

Were these the cables that came with the PWs? That's pretty poor, isn't it, considering the cost of the PWs?

However - I forgot to say a friend tried the Nissin with his PWs (different cables). He also tried my PWs (and cables) with his Nikon flash unit - this worked, no problem.

No, these were cables I bought from Ebay, the ones that came with the PWs look like junk though...

Mmm. The Amazon product description for the PT04s says "The trigger set isn't compatible with some Nissin flash units (except Nissin Nikon fit with firmware upgraded)"

I've had a response from Nissin who don't know whether their flashes are compatible with Pocket Wizards or not. The suggest testing the PC sync terminal on my unit by shorting the terminals. Does this sound like a good idea - or not?

Well, I shorted the PC sync port anyway, and it fired. Also plugged in the cable that came with Pocket Wizards and shorted the jack plug at the other end of that - that worked too, so the cable is OK. BUT - the puzzling this is, after doing this, the Pocket Wizards now work! Can anyone explain this?

Well, I finally established that this was a problem with the pc-sync port on the Nissin. I sent it back for replacement.
