Nikons Facebook Status

You have to admit that the Nikon advertising campaign isn't bad - it certainly keeps the names at the front.

Although who else can't help but laugh at the TV advert with the fat one from Take That encouraging everyone to use flash at a concert.......

.... and from a concert that was clearly several years ago when Robbie was in his hey-day and not crawling back to Gary (et al) and probably wasn't using a Nikon.

it could have been more tactfully phrased like

' the best photographers deserve the best gear, ' but that aside there are two possibilities here

a) is that they've hired a ****wit - and he'll promptly be dehired shortly or

b) it was all a cynical ploy to get people talking about nikon - this may blow up in their faces as most of the people talking about it arent doing so in a good way - you can indeed have bad publicity - for example as i said on another thread just ask gerald " all my jewelery is crap " ratner

all it's saying is "a good photographer is only as good as their gear

yeah but thats tosh - a good photographer can get a great image with crap gear, but the best gear in the world wont make a mediocre photographer great

I know it's tosh, I'm not the one saying that, but all it's saying is if you want to aspire to be the best then use Nikon to give you the advantage.... marketing spiel.Gotta love marketeering.....

I can't believe this kicked up so much fuss?

Yeah give a random person a D3 and they won't get the best out ofit, give a great photographer a point and shoot and chances are they will still get great images.

BUT if you have half a clue on how to use a camera I can't see how anyone can say that a better camera won't produce better images, even if better just means higher resolution for bigger prints.

I know for night games under poor floodlights I'd prefer a d3s to a D40

Yeah I know - i'm not offended by it myself anyway because i use propper cameras anyway;) - all i'm saying is that they should have foreseen that not everyone would take kindly to being told that their kit is more important than their skill.

I suppose the problem is, just like with this forum, its very easy to say things that you wouldn't normally say in person. It does amaze me though, how people on FB day things as if they are personally offended and its affected them deeply. Suppose its a generational thing but I see more and more friends of all ages taking things written on FB as gospel. Insanity is taking over ...

That'll be the ad campaign where Nikon Photoshopped one of their cameras over the Canon (or possibly a Pentax) that Williams actually used?

Another fail for the inept ones in Nikon's marketing dept

They are digging themselves even deeper now!

Nikon We know some of you took offense to this post, and we apologize, as it was not our aim to insult any of our friends. Our statement was meant to be interpreted that the right equipment can help you capture amazing images. We appreciate the passion you have for photography and your gear, and know that a great picture is possible anytime and anywhere.

Maybe I'm simple, but I see that statement as easy-to-understand, if a little clunky in the grammar dept.
