Nikons Facebook Status

It's the perfect way to promote a company selling camera equipment.

it's pretty tame - have a look at Vuescan's offer for Silverfast users, which is a lengthy rant about the competition.

That's what you get when you employ social media monkeys experts

It would be more worrying if they were saying the opposite!

If they had said the opposite then they might have sold one or two of the Nikon 1 cameras ;)

Have to agree with Ed here, they're trying to sell us ****, they're not gurus on the philosophy of the art/craft imparting their wise wisdom on us all.

It might not be the most tactful way to put it, but don't delude yourself that the other companies think of it any other way.

Given the obvious target market for the Nikon 1 cameras, I think what they DID say will probably resonate the most with that group. Although perhaps it might have had more impact there as 'A photographer is only as good as the brand name on his equipment'.

Lots of negative comments on it!

It gets people talking about Nikon, which I'm sure was their point all along.

There's no such thing as bad publicity.......

Even when its pompous tosh.

Andy

I don't think it will get them any new customers with that arrogant statement.

Why? Most buyers of cameras believe "if it's better so must be the pictures".

It's marketing and here we are all talking Nikon as I'm sure are others.

Which target market are you more likely to see on Facebook though?
And more importantly which market are more likely to be affected by marketing. I can't see many professionals caring about anything other than whether their gear does the job asked of it, people who haven't a clue will be swayed by it and the people complaining profess that the equipment doesn't matter anyway.

Much fuss over nothing. Okay it wasn't the most tactful statement ever (and probably wasn't meant to come over as it did) but how many people will remember this even next week never mind actually change sides.

Signed a Nikon user considering changing sides (but only because I want a 300 f4 with stabilisation and the 24-105IS is better than the 24-120VR)

You are right about the first statement.I know of few people who belong to that category.

The fact That it's being discussed on here means it has done it's job - get people talking about Nikon.

im surprised tbh, you think nikons statement that u are only as good as the gear you are using is ok

How about "Nikon - it doesn't matter if you use our cameras, it won't make you a better photographer"

You have my permission to suggest that to them as a marketing strapline.....:naughty:

so many replies.. people (like the op) starting threads on photo websites about it.... I would say whoever wrote it is doing a good job..

How about "Nikon - it doesn't matter if you use our cameras, it won't make you a better photographer unless your previous camera was a Canon"

Corrected as I know you are to modest to say what you mean as usual:)

lol @ "I don't care, I shoot with a CANNON" :D

I think that this proves one thing, Facebook should be renamed Facetards because it seems that most of the people on it are completely morons!

They just posted
"Nikon Photography
come nd join with us ,,,,,,,
thanXXXXXXXXXX :))"

I have a feeling they have been either "Fraped" or someone drunk is at the wheel lol. They even liked my comment of "I just gave my 9 year old daughter my 1d to use, Vogue if you are reading this get in touch to book her!"

Not sure what the issue is, Nikon are in the business of selling Cameras and their brand? It's not as if they would say if you take landscape photos you should buy a Canon 5D2, or if you want resolution you should buy a Pentax medium format...

one of the replies is "Nikon: Uncle Bob's favorite camera"

Made me chuckle :)

I too am finding the comments highly amusing.

Ian.

What a load of fuss over nothing. Typical, clumsy Nikon grammar, that's all it was.

Does She do weddings Chris.........

Amazes me how stupid people are. Read between the lines... all it's saying is "a good photographer is only as good as their gear (and if you want the best, use Nikkor lenses)" or something along those lines. Probably written by someone trying to be a bit clever but so what....

Bookface really does congregate the retards of the world into one (virtual) place.....

I think they responded with...

“We know some of you took offense to the last post, and we apologize, as it was not our aim to insult any of our friends. Our statement was meant to be interpreted that the right equipment can help you capture amazing images. We appreciate the passion you have for photography and your gear, and know that a great picture is possible anytime and anywhere.”
