Nikon_Nicks 52 for ‘22 - Added Week 43 - Vehicle & Week 44 - Autumnal

Some lovely textures in there. Shame there wasn't some light to "lift" the greens.. would have been perfect. But then I say that about a lot of my own shots ;)

Thanks Helen. Yes it was a very flat day unfortunately, and I did play around with it a bit in processing afterwards to try and get more out of it. Looked ok when I was editing, but I see what you mean. Might have another play with it to see what I can do. Thanks again :)

Ok, so here's my attempt for this week. Struggled with a bit to get something I liked this week, and experimented with a Tide Optics Cinesoft filter to get the bloom effect on the lights. Shot at 1/30 @ 8000iso

I like the second shot the best Nick, my eye keeps focusing on the red/orange of the lights at the end of the first shot. Maybe if it was B&W it might work better for me.

I like the bloom of the lights, an interesting effect.

Looking at the second shot, does anyone remember the tv ad from years ago,”you’re never alone with a strand?”

Second one for me too. I like the light on the fence, trees and path on the first but the strong colours in the lights distract too much for me.

Thanks. I was a bit torn on what to do to be honest. The different types of street lighting were definitely a distraction so I tried toning down the orange a little. I wasn’t too bothered about the red car lights. I did also try b&w, but imo that just made ALL of the lights distracting :D Anyway, you live and learn, cheers.

Thank you. All duly noted for future reference. The more I look at it, the more I like the second shot too…

I think I prefer your chosen shot, though I'd say it's a little light in the foreground and could maybe benefit from some darkening in that area so it's more like the second.

As it happens I think the second is a touch TOO dark - but not by much. Though I'll admit that might just be on my monitor as no one else has mentioned that,

Both nice though.

Thanks Kell (y) I did use a slight vignette, but maybe a little too slight :)

I prefer the first shot, but can see how tricky it was. The lamp just out of the crop at the top is a bit distracting.
2nd one is too dark

Pete

Thanks Pete. Yes, it was tricky, so I can definitely argue that ive challenged myself :D I actually cropped the shot a little to take away some of the light at the top as I also concluded that it was too distracting.

Both nice shot's Nick. The first one reminds me of the opening scene in Harry Potter when Dumbledore was extinguishing the streetlights with his wand - they have that sort of look about them( #geek/#nerd mode)
The shadows make the second shot.

Thanks Simon :) See what you mean about the lights (fellow geek obviously), and I could have done with that to get rid of the old orange lights.

:plus1:

Great location, must have been spoilt for choice for a shot there.

That's a nice shot - so much going on in that image, but the focus not he subject that hits the theme.

Thanks Alan. You’d think so wouldn’t you, but I couldn’t unfortunately get to the platform and this shot was pretty much taken from the main road outside of the station.

A railway shot - what's not to like? :)

Is it wrong that I knew that was Ongar before reading your post. Due to that 1/2 round shed.
You must be taking the shot from more or less milepost zero.
Outside the main fence with a slight crop :D
