Hi,
Im thinking of getting a Nikon z50 and I really like the range of their FX 24-200mm lens,

This would get me the range I need.. I know it would be cropped so essentially x1.5. Still ideal for me.

I've been told other than the crop, the lens would function just fine (no change in detail or performance etc) but Ive seen a few murmurs that the sharpness and maybe megapixels would lessen when using the full frame lens on the Z50.

Would like some clarification?
Hope this makes sense.

The 24-200 has not yet been launched so no one knows how good it is.
Yes you can use FX Z lenses on the Z50. The view will be DX - (1.5) times. I doubt if the performance will be less on the Z50.
Personally if I wanted an "all in one lens" for the Z50 I would wait for the DX Z 18-140.This is on the roadmap but not yet announced.
If you can cope with a 2 lens solution the DX 16-50 Z and 50-250 Z are both available and often come as a kit with the Z50.

Ah great thank you.

To be fair, the range this lens would provide would be ideal.. Its just a few sources online have suggested a FX lens would reduce the quality of the shots on a DX body.

Information seems to conflict

It’s somewhat lens dependant. For example the Nikon 28 1.4e is shockingly sharp in its central portion but not as good at the edges. If you put this lens on DX then your in effect only using the central portion of the lens. This would therefore give you a field of view of 42mm and very sharp corner to corner.

If you took an fx lens such as the Nikon 24-120 which is a bit mediocre and ‘magnified’ the central portion by using it on DX then your not going to get as good results as if you’ve started with a sharper lens.
