Nikon Z setting tutorial

I’ve been using Nikon DSLRs for over 10 years but next week I’m going to get my first mirror less Nikon the Z7 II.
Am I over thinking it or is there a bunch of new stuff that I need to learn about the new mirror less system. I’m going to be using it mainly for natural light portraiture so any tips or directions to a good tutorial would be greatly appreciated thanks

I would say yes, you're over thinking it.
Put it into another context, if you can ride a bike you won't fall off.
OK so there are new things but it's straight forward.
 
Probably over-thinking, but otoh just recently I've done a couple of Nikon School tutorials and found them really helpful, so recommend that as an approach if you fancy it - trouble being that they are usually on weekday afternoons.

Cheers mate. I actually just watched a YouTube on it and the menu system is exactly the same as what I am used to, just a few new AF points to be aware of.....

I went from a D810 (and Fuji X-T2) to a Z6ii and Z7ii recently. A few observations:

1) I bought a hand grip for each as although I wanted a smaller camera, it felt a little too small, a hand grip made it feel just right. I managed to get a Wepoto one but these are as rare as the proverbial, so I’ve also got a small rig L-bracket and removed the upright bit. Both work really well.The battery grip is a bit big, I have one but don’t use it much.

2) screen black out is annoying.

3) the evf is excellent, way better than the Fuji and hard to tell that’s it’s not a OVF at first.

4) menus and controls are pretty much the same as any other Nikon really.

5) most of the things I photograph don’t move so AF settings aren’t of massive concern to me, but I did find this page useful for some suggested settings generally: https://photographylife.com/recommended-nikon-z7-settings

Hay Andy, I read somewhere yesterday that unless I get the battery grip Im going to struggle balancing it on my 600mm f4 lens on the gimbal head, so was planning to get one of those, I didn't know Nikon made a hand grip, I will check it out first.........thanks

If you’re using a 600mm lens then get the battery grip for sure! The biggest lens I’ve used on mine is my 70-200 F4 with FTZ adapter so not exactly the largest / heaviest set up compared to a 600mm.

Nikon don’t make a hand grip as such, hence I use a Wepoto one and a Smallrig one, the cameras just feels better in my quite large hands with them on.
 
Can't help but congrats! I love the arrival of a new camera, so exciting !
