Nikon Z* mirrorless

@trevorbray @jknights
Ha ha! Found it!
How to restrict continuous burst rate:
Pencil Icon -> (d) Shooting display -> (a2) Maximum shots per burst -> Select up or down on the multi-selector 200 -> 1

I dare say this applies to most / all Z Nikon cameras.
Well found.
I tend to shoot landscapes mostly these days so dont have a lot of use for fast fps shooting but it is great for sports and wildlife photography.

BTW: The user notes from Nikon does warn users not to have third party lens attached to the camera when updating the firmware to v3.00!

Think I'll be holding off on the update for now until this settles down (or there's a minor bug fix release). There are a few features that appeal, such as the focus limiter but I do have a Tamron lens and there seems to be little info about which lenses are affected by the latest firmware (and how they are affected)

I think that is wise if that is your go to lens as there is no guarantee that the Tamron will work with the Z8 with v3.00 and it will take Tamron a while to produce a firmware update or fix.

This is the problem with 3rd party lenses and accessories, they're prone to being blocked, whether on purpose or inadvertently.
If the 3rd party manufacturer decides it's not worth the money/effort to resolve the issue, or they're prioritising other things, then a wait could be in store. Many older lenses need returned to update the firmware.
That's why I've stayed Nikon only and I think that's the way Nikon is pushing it, at every opportunity.

You’d expect Nikon to be pro active in supporting Tamron. Especially considering the 17-28, 28-75 and 70-180 are rebadged Tamron.

It's not my go to lens, but it is the only one that covers a particular focal range in my kit (28-75mm)

Is there a list of non functioning lenses after the update?
I havent seen a list but my non-Nikon lenses for Z mount are:
TT Artisans 75mm f2.0
Viltrox 85mm f1.8
These both work on my Z8 as normal e.g. AF works perfectly and aperture change is as normal.

Don’t suppose anyone has used the z5 ii at a airshow yet have they

The 24-120 f4 is a really fine lens. I hope you enjoy your new gear.

Thanks.

I had to pop to Llandrindod Wells today as I have 3 prints for sale in the Here Comes Dragons art exhibition. I took the Zfc and the kit zoom lens with me. Fired off a handful of grab images whilst sat at the lake boathouse cafe. Here is my first image from that camera:

Since Nikon only produce the FTZ adapter that works with AFS lenses only if you want autofocus lenses, I have just ordered the Monster Adapter LA-FZ1 adapter so I can use my older Nikon AF/AFD 'screwdriver driven' lenses on my Z series cameras.

Do you guys have any experience using Nikon Z 17-28mm f2.8?
I'm planning to use it with Zf as travel lens ( I mostly used 20mm primes in the past, so 17-28mm would be nice change).

Hi folks hope all is well.

I’m considering buying a FF kit again and I’ve been looking at the Z8. I shoot a mix of things from still life, the odd landscape and pets. I love macro but have my OM system for that.

I’ve been reading up on the Z8 (last FF system was lumix).

What are your general thoughts on the Z8. I see the sensor speed is twice that of the OM1. What’s the animal AF like with CAF?

Any comments / thoughts appreciated

I’m only a hobby tog and was considering canon / Sony. Unless I’m willing to spend silly money on a top Sony body the FOs and readout speed is poor and canon are so expensive the Z8 seemed to sit comfortably in between the costs.

I’d have to buy grey but I’d be looking at the Z8, 24-70 F2.8, 70-200 F2.8 and say an 85/135 F1.8.

I moved from the Z6 to the Z8 a few months ago. The difference in autofocus performance and animal / bird / car / eye detection is night and day. I haven’t had any issues tracking cars for panning or birds bobbing around branches etc.

I bought from a grey importer as it enabled me to get the 24-120 F4 as well for the same price as the body only from other retailers. I’ve got the 85 1.8 with it and it’s my fave combo, but just had the 70-200 2.8 delivered and going to have a play with that when I get more time (and ahead of RIAT).

Battery life has been better than expected and the raw fps speed has been excellent for capturing more / missing less than my previous set up.

Biggest relief is the shutter curtain, I no longer spend half my editing time cloning out dust spots!

How long do panamoz take to deliver lol

Also why are uk prices so expensive in comparison and why can panamoz offer a 3 year warranty but you only get 1 year from a high street shop in the UK

I would have prefer to buy from somewhere like Wex but it’s almost £900 difference and less warranty.

Wex actually have a used Z8 with 40k clicks and that’s still more than a body from panamoz

I think it was Photography Life that said the 70-200 2.8 z was the sharpest telephoto they have ever tested.
I have a friend with the Plena - he uses it for portraits, the results are fantastic.
I also endorse the 24-120.

Simple really, the UK tax system does the damage, people say it is wrong to do the UK sellers out of business but when you are saving hundreds of pounds you do it for you not the UK Governments holidays and lunches. As for time I have as far as I can remember I have never waited longer than 5 working days for any items from Panamoz and there back up service has been excellent. Russ.

I went from the Nikon D750 to the Sony A9 (first gen FF stacked sensor) and now using the Z8. I'm not a professional user however I find the AF performance is fantastic, no real complaints with it although I haven't used an A1 series or whatever the Canon equivalent is. The stacked sensor is also fantastic since it's completely silent and the lack of blackout makes CAF burst shots so much easier to track the subject. The only downside to me is I don't like the size and weight of the Z8 which is quite hefty compared to the A9 although that's just a personal thing, there's clearly plenty who prefer the design.

I paid £3300 for mine and thought it was good value for the incredible capability of the camera and was shocked to see it's just over £2000 for the camera now, I think that's an amazing price for the spec and performance of the Z8.

The warranty from the likes of Wex, is a Nikon warranty, and Nikon only offer 12 months. Panamoz offers its own warranty, independent of Nikon, and they handle any repair or replacement under this warranty. In the UK, Nikon will still repair grey imports, but obviously not under warranty. Nikon USA refuse to touch grey imports (but Nkon USA have a unique relationship with Nikon Japan).

The Panamoz prices include paying all the UK import duties and taxes so the "grey" bit doesn't mean there is anything dodgy or illegal about the imports.

Nikon Japan control the prices in the UK and Europe, and this includes the costs of running Nikon UK, and the support it provides for Nikon users, and, I suspect, what they think the market will stand. These costs vary between countries, and the prices in UK and Europe are high compared to other countries around the world. By buying from outside Europe, the grey importers, even after paying taxes, can still undercut the official importers. They might also take advantage of varying currency exchange rates, when choosing suppliers.

This isn't unique to Nikon, over the years, I've bought various things (not just camera-related kit) from overseas, and even after paying carriage, VAT and import duties, I have made substantial saving over buying the same item in the UK.

The long term risk from buying grey, is that Nikon might pull out of the UK, with possible detrimental effects on the availability of Nikon equipment and spare parts. There are occasional comments on Nikon forums, from people living in countries where Nikon has pulled out, and they complain about difficulties with Nikon repairs, and buying new Nikon gear. Both at astronomical prices because there is no local competition from Nikon.

Optimistically, buying grey might force Nikon Japan to reduce their prices in the UK.
