Nikon Z* mirrorless

I'm selling 58G in case anyone here are interested, put it out in For Sale section.
I bought it for Zf, but I prefer lens without using adapters.

Who's using F mount lenses on a z mount camera via the adaptor? What's your thoughts?

Never had any issues optically, but have gradually replaced my f mount lenses with z mounts ones for more practical reasons - either wanted the features of a newer lens, keep overall size down, etc.

If there was a specific lens I wanted that was only in f mount, I’d have no issues using the FTZ to adapt it!

No issues here, been using the 70-200 f2.8 VR2, 24-70 f2.8 and the Tampon 17-35.

I have used my 300mm f2.8, 70-200 f2.8 and they work fine for me. I haven't tried the 14-24 f2.8 or 24-70 f2.8 but have no reason to think they will not work well.

@chris321 @sep9001 @jknights
Just ordered a Z9 and adaptor...I hope you know what you've made me do! :)
I currently have 2 D5s and a D850 with the F mount 14-24 2.8, 24-70 2.8, 70-200 2.8, 300 4.0 PF and a 400 2.8
I used to have a load of Fuji stuff and I miss the WYSIWYG ellement and the spread of focus points...Back on the slippery slope!

I am sure you will enjoy the Z9 and your old lenses will still work well on FTZ(2).

Tamron will soon announce a new 16-30mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 lens for Nikon Z :)
I hope it will be cheaper than Nikon 17-28 f2.8

Can anyone give me a reason not to buy the

Voigtlander 40mm f1.2 Nokton Aspherical ?

Is it simply that good? What are your views?

My favourite lens on my Zf. Mind you I’m a sucker for fast glass. Love the look of it and what it produces. It can be prone to a bit of CA. I don’t care. I also have the kit 40mm f2. But only use it when I want to have AF.

The recent raft of firmware updates for everything except the Z9 makes me think that there will not be another firmware update as the Z9II is not that far away.
There was talk (this time last year IIRC) of a major firmware update for the Z9 that gave 'significant' focus benefits but us consumers saw nothing, and the talk died away.
The recent Z8 update seems, on the face of it, to give the Z8 an edge over Nikon's top of the range camera.
It's a strange situation that I think can only be reconciled by the near announcement of a new Z9.

I'll be waiting a month or two before I update my z8
Pixel Shift with Focus Shift or AE Bracketing:
  • The Z8 firmware 3.00 enables pixel-shift shooting combined with focus-shift or AE bracketing without external accessories.

  • This allows for the creation of ultra-high-definition images with vast depth of field and dynamic range, suitable for various photography genres.

  • The update also includes new folder options for automated file management during pixel-shift shooting.
Autofocus and Subject Detection Enhancements:
  • Users can now select a subject type for detection priority even in manual focus mode.

  • Focusing defaults to maximum aperture in live view, improving precision.

  • Custom wide-area AF patterns and a slower release mode for precise timing are also introduced.

  • New in-body focus limiter allows users to define near and far focus distances to prevent unwanted focus hunting.
Usability and Video Improvements:
  • Firmware 3.00 adds a new [FINE] quality mode for High-Speed Frame Capture+ to enhance image quality.

  • External microphones (wired or wireless) are supported for recording voice memos.

  • Support for Flexible Color Picture Control allows users to create custom looks using Nikon's NX Studio and apply them to the camera.

  • AWB lock from the first frame is available when using [Auto] or [Natural light auto].
Other Notable Features:
  • A new self-timer mode allows switching between standard settings and pixel-shift shooting even when using the self-timer.

  • Zoom magnification has been increased to 400% for detailed image review.

  • New custom wide-area AF patterns are introduced.

I would tend to agree as the plethora of new features probably hides several bugs, so there will be fixes released in the months following.

I dont shoot video so the attractive new features for me are:
  • Zoom magnification has been increased to 400% for detailed image review.

  • New custom wide-area AF patterns are introduced.
If I did pixel shift photos the that might be interesting especially with the new folder options!

Please Help -- I'm in need of advice.
I have the Nikon Z6ii with a Nikon Z 50 mm 1.8 prime lens.
For my every day photography I am very satisfied with this combination.
However, I cannot get close to subjects, eg this Hydrangea flower.
This photo is cropped because the closest I can get is is about 30 inches.
What Z mount lens can I buy to get close enough to just take the flower - about 5 inches across - without needing to crop.
Any advice much appreciated.

Seems a long MFD to me. Nikon say it’s around 16inches.

I can't see anything of interest for me.

Most of the firmware update is of no interest. I look forward to seeing if the AF limiter helps me with BIF (especially against a busy background).
Also, defaulting to maximum aperture should help, instead of the current 5.6.

Although, you won't get as close as fill the frame with something 5" (127mm) across with that lens, based on this photograph you should be able to get closer than you have.

It looks like you are are focussed on leaves, which are closer to you than the flowers. So with careful focussing you should be able to get closer to the flowers than you have: unless I have misread the photograph

With this sort of thing I would manually focus or use a small area AF and make sure it;'s aimed at the subject . You should be able to fill the frame with a subject area of 241mm x 161mm with this lens at its closest focus point..

There are several options that will allow higher magnifications, and I think other posts have offered suggestions. Do you already own any other lenses?

Z8 v3.00 firmware available for download today.
I have downloaded and installed.
No issues from my initial testing.

High / Low Frame Rate.
Is it possible to restrict the number of shots taken? A bit like in the bracketing mode where you keep the shutter pressed and it takes however many shots you've set.
I'd like to be able to set the camera at , say, 20 shots a second but only take a maximum of 10 shots no matter how long I keep the shutter pressed.
Can't find anything in the manual. (Z9 by the way.)

Can you do it in Pre Capture mode. I don’t have a Z9

I dont think this is supported. I think you need just judge it!

Dunno...I'l have a look. Would have thought it would be a useful feature and easy to include.
Try this. Menu. Shooting/display. Maximum shots per burst

Edit. Too late
