Nikon Z* mirrorless

Has anyone brought from Hilton photo.co.uk? I’ve never heard of them and some of their prices are weird. As a kit you can buy the z6ii cheaper than the z6. Seems a bit strange and rings some alarm bells to me.

£2039

£2199

Edit: looks like it could be due to theNikon summer savings that end 19th July. Sounds like I need to make a decision on what I’m doing long term with photography as I’m considering coming back to Nikon and concentrating on landscapes.

I had contacted them over the phone and via facebook about the availability of the new 105mm macro.
They were quite a bit cheaper but didn't have it in stock.
They did come across as genuine and pleasant in their communications with me.
I've never bought from them but would have if it was in stock.

It looks like the price difference is due to the summer saving promotion. I’ve never heard of them before. it looks like they only stock specific brands. I’ve not seen them come up on camera price buster either so I thought id ask.

I’m waiting for a 24-200 to come in with them - again good communication and I believe a family run business so fingers crossed

Has anybody got experience using the AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8G ED on the Z6 or Z7? I miss the versatility of a 24-70mm but can't currently afford the z mount version. I know the combo will be front heavy, but wondered how the AF consistency is with the FTZ?

As luck would have it, the images I sent you on my 24-70 sale thread were taken on my Z6ii, ftz and the 24-70 I’m hoping you will buy.

It works really well together and doesn’t feel unbalanced. Granted I’m trying to sell something, but I’m not that kind of guy to mislead you. Plus the focusing I feel is far better with all adapted lenses using the Z than
when with the dlsrs.

I can sell you your 24-70mm back to you
I just didn't find f/4 fast enough for dim indoor situations. I guess it was because I was mainly shooting moving subjects which meant slower shutter speeds with the IBIS weren't soo useful!! Saying that the form factor was nice and compact and light

The image you took on the motorbikes at sunset were great!! I'm a few days away from the funds - leave it with me!! Thanks for the images I requested

This landed on my lounge window yesterday.
Managed to get outside and get the rear view too.
Only got my 24-200mm at the moment for my Z6II, so didn't expect too much.
Nothing special but not bad considering.

After a fair bit of deliberation I've decided to rent the Tamron 150-600 G2 from LensForHire.co.uk for the trip. The customer service has been exceptional so far, so that's a great start!

This is a lens that I'm actually considering to buy so it'll be good to give it a real world test. The 500 PF 5.6 could well be the next one to hire but it's 3 times the cost to buy of the Tamron. It's less likely to be a purchase for me due to the low amount of wildlife photography I actually do.

A few people on eBay selling EL15's for £19 - states genuine, are they likely to be fakes ?
Yes

Having said that he is giving 30 days return and only 1 negative recently.

Might be worth a punt?

Certainly odd - if I was going to pas off fakes as Nikon genuine then I would price them at say 40 quid not 19.

Its a great lens and I have one but use it mostly on a D500 rather than my Z6.

One of the real bonuses on MILCs is that you don't need to AF fine tune the lens to a DSLR body and it is one of those lenses that can suffer from significant differences in tuning as you change zoom range and with subject distance. I spent many happy hours setting up my G2 for my D500 using the "Tap-in " console.

Has anyone got a third party wireless flash confirmed working on a Z5? The few articles I've read are very generic and seem to suggest anything that works with a Nikon DSLR will be fine, but then the even fewer actual user reports I've found have discussed nothing but issues.

I just need a commander and flash, basically, nothing fancy and it'll get used a handful of times a year so I loathe to shell out on a Nikon system for multiple hundreds of pounds.

Godox work fine, the V1 needs a firmware update but that's easy enough. I'm not sure I can recommend them though as the batteries on Godox are crap. I've been thinking about moving back to Nikon speed lights.

Just picked up a 24-200 from my excellent local LCE (Derby) blimey its a big heavy beast !!

Glad I’ve kept the 24-50 to take on longer hikes !

Hope it’s worth it !

Yes I like my 24-200 but I used it a few times this week and thought that it is a bit front heavy.
The focal range is mighty handy though.

Strange as I thought part of the advantage of the Z design was that the heavy bits are at the rear of the lens ?

But yes the range will be great - I’m thinking 24-200 for shorter walks and City breaks and the 24-50 for proper walks.

It will be interesting to see what the 24-105 weighs when it appears.

Does everyone turn their in camera image stabilisation off when shooting on a tripod? I always did this with my D750 but I thought I read somewhere that it doesn't matter with the Z cameras?

I always do but it's probably habit more than anything else - I didn't know that you could leave it on. I've still not read the manual for my Z5 though so that probably explains a lot. :p

b****r, forgot to do that earlier when I was taking some close up shots for a coin I'm listing on ebay.
Only got my 24-200mm as I've cleared all my old DSLR lenses.
The shots came out good enough for the internet though.
Next coins I do on a tripod I'll remember to turn off the IBIS. Be interesting to see any difference if any.
All jpeg, and massively cropped, due to the close focussing limitation of the 24-200mm.

Had a fun day exploring the limits of my Z5s yesterday. The FTZ with the 200-500mm f5.6 was an interesting one, it didn't give me a great deal of confidence in use but actually when I got home and edited the photos, the hit rate was much better than I had expected. I'm going to try the FTZ and Sigma 100-400mm C next weekend, so it'll be interesting to see how that compares. A native 100-400mm can't come soon enough!

The 24-200mm was, as per usual, fantastic. It really does perform well above its price point (and well outside of what I assume is its intended use!)

A walk in Wales on Thursday. Took the Pony Path up Cadair Idris. Very cloudy and foggy when we got there but cleared as we got further up. A really fabulous walk, (5 hours there and back), with some breathtaking views. Much quieter than the Snowdon/Ogwen area as well. I look forward to going back in winter. Will be fun in snow.

After a couple of hundred metres of ascent, as the hills started to peak through the clouds.
Z5 and 24-200.

This guide is helpful. Have a look when you get the battery home:

Well my £18.98 ‘Genuine’ Nikon EL15 arrived from eBay today.

If it is a fake it’s a flipping good one - checked the guide above and others and no concerns. Checked images of genuine batteries (including units on MPB) and there is nothing suspicious.

Popped it in the camera and it works with no messages etc. Battery info in the menu says it at 80% charge and is new. Maybe I‘ve been lucky or the fakes have got better ?

Well I certainly do not regret hiring the Tamron 150-600 for our trip to Norfolk this past week. Definitely a learning curve to get the best out of it but got a good few keepers, especially from our chance encounter with a colony of seals on the beach.

The one I got was perfect except the hologram sticker. It was identical to the fake ones. Bit too bright and shiny.
