I'm wanting to do some Morris dancing street photography and I'm looking to pick out individual facial expressions as well as general group dancing shots.
Means I'm looking for a fast focussing zoom lens. Something that goes from 18-200mm would be the ideal range to cover - 18-200mm VR may be? Other lenses to consider are 18-105mm VR, 18-135mm, 55-200mm VR, 70-300mm VR or if money no object, a 70-200mm VR 2.8 (or the new f4 if more affordable).
I'll be using a D300s on shutter priority at 1/1000 at f5.6 with Auto ISO on to capture movement, and hope for sunshine!
What I need to know which of the kit zooms listed above is the quickest to autofocus, I'll be 2 to 3 yards from the dancers so a lot is being asked of the camera and lens especially when zooming in. I suspect that there's not much difference between the consumer kit zooms af speed wise and that I'll need the 70/200mm VR to really nail it, but that's a lens I can't afford let enough carry around all day!
Your comments appreciated.
