Nikon winder broke help :(

hey i had just finshed off a roll of film and there was no pop out winder on when i got it out of college tried went to go unwind it with what was left with the winder , and it just comes off and leaves a thread sticking out
anyideas how i can get it off without going into the darkroom ?

What camera is it? Any chance of a pic of the damaged area? Doesn't need to be good quality, cell phone pic would probably do....

Failing that, can you get your hands on a small set of vice grips? It will probably make a mess of the thread thats left but could get you're film out of the camera.

Only other option is as you suggested, into the darkroom - is there one at you're college?

If you have a changing bag, engage whatever you need to rewind the film and then pop the camera in it, open the back and remove the film can.

Now gently wind the film into the cassette...voila.
