Nikon wide-angle lens suggestions?

Hello all,

Loads of people on here have already helped me loads, and i have already learnt so much, but if you guys could help me one more time? I'm planning to buy a Nikon D3200, and i've chosen a macro lens to buy, but i'd also like a decent wide-angle lens too. It's just for general landscape images, though i do specialise in architecture, if that makes any difference.

I don't have a massive budget being honest, i've spent most of it on the camera body and macro and extras (memory card, bag, etc) but if people say something is definitley worth the money, i'll willing to push into higher amounts of money.

A secondhand copy of a Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8

It's been highly recommended by many here :)
 
Aye, a used Tokina 11-16 would be a good step. The Sigma 10-20 is also an option but not as nice as the Toki imo.

There is a Classified section on the forum but you need a minimum post count to access it. Independent camera dealers like LCE that sell used equipment would be worth seeking out.

Nikon 16-85 is a nice lens. Seems to do most things well, good walk about lens too.
 
Another vote for the 16-85 , also if the only other lens you have is Macro ,then you would benefit more from the range of the Nikon.
 
Used Nikon 12-24 f4 or Tokina 12-24 f4 would be my choice on your crop body....both excellent lenses with a good range for most types of landscape including the fact that they are wide enough for most architecture togs...
 
If you want to use auto focus you will need to buy a lens with an inbuilt af motor as the D3200 does not have a focus motor in the body. Any of the Nikon AF-S lenses will be fine, I really liked my Nikkor 12-24mm F4 AF-S, the newer Tokina's (11-16 and the new 12-28 due very soon and 12-24) now come with AF motors and these are superb lenses, though I haven't used the 12-28 !!
 
As mentioned the Nikkor 16-85 is a lovely lens, quite sharp and covers many bases

Is this a DX lens? If not it will possibly not be wide enough for landscape/city scape/architecture as on a crop body it will be 24mm at its widest ....

EDIT...i see it is a DX lens so my point was irrelevant

The 16-85 is DX so not long enough, I have it for my D7000 but have a Sigma 10-20mm for wide angle, not sure if this has a built in motor to autofocus on the D3200 though.

I strongly agree about Tokinas

The tamron 10-24 is the last one to recommend (actually I can't at all after seeing what they are (not) capable of)
 
Wow, thanks for the response guys!

It looks like the Tokina seems to be the strongest contender, also if second hand it fits quite nicely into what's left of my budget, so i think i'll look that one up.
