Nikon Vs Canon Debate.

Sadly the output of any camera is subjective in quality analysis rather than purely scientific. The images you get I might think are pants and vice versa.

The original poster wasn't trying to suggest one brand name was better than other (and I'd be only too happy to support that idea) , only what exact model potentially had the features he thought were important for him.

Well, having seen the 1DMkIIN ISO performance, I'd probably say ISO400 is about as far you want to take it unless you are really careful with your exposures.

And I think therein we have the Canon vs Nikon problem - you can pick and choose your desired features but if you want good AF, good ISO performance, full frame and no problems the actual camera you want is a D700/D3. Oh and not at the price of a 1DS MkIII (or IV)

Me, I would actually have prefered a "Canon D300" or in this posters situation a "Canon D700/D3" - and many, many people seem to be of the same mindset...

That is Canon's marketing people with their head's up their backsides...

This is now back on topic.. Thank you Desantnik, a Canon D700/D3 would be perfect.. im not quite sure why Canon haven't addressed it, maybe they dont think there would be a market for it..

Maybe thats what the 50D should have been!! a bit more along the lines of the 700?? better AF and full frame.. they could have even packaged it all up in a 1D type body.. something in between 5DMkI and the 1Ds.. thats exactly what the D3 seems to be..

Anyway, I worked in a Lab, we only done commertial work so it was Pro togs and adverts.. in the lab we used to do repro stuff.. people would bring artwok in or we'd copy slides and negs.. this was all sone on Nikon camera's!! but they photographic studio that was in the basement was used for all sorts of stuff, even the Page 3 girls would come in.. now, the photographers all used Canon..

I got the impression from the managers that they used ONLY Nikon for copying things as they were the "Best" and they were the sharpest on the market, now its a real shame i wasn't so into photography back then as i am now, i would have asked more questions and i'd have also asked the togs downstairs too.. but i didnt.. :bonk:

I deliberately responded before I read the whole thread so please excuse if I say what has been said before...;)

Keep the bodies you have and buy some really kickass primes...50/1.4 - buy 2, 85/1.2 and 135/2.

That is what I am working on now as soon as I got me a few light zooms the Missus can work with:thumbs::thumbs:

The Holy Trinity.. Mmmm.. now your talking.. they ARE the dogs danglies.. maybe when i have no more kids and hell has well and truly frozen over!!! or i win the lottery!!

You surely have other Canon lenses now which you will also have to replace if (Heaven forbid:D) you should cross over to the dark side.

Figure all of that in with the price of whatever N**on body + lens/lenses you are considering and then tell me you will still need to win the lotto;)

Hehe.. i know.. im not changing sides.. just curious.. and keen to hear the debate unfurl.. but its not really started.. its turned into something else!! lol.. interesting none the less..

So you are really just disappointed that the C/N debate didn't take off yet??

Which ones better?

In the immortal words of Harry Hill "Theres only one way to find out..... FIGHT!!!!!"

WHAT A RATHER DAFT AND QUITE SILLY QUESTION...Canon is tops, of course!!

I thought so...

Debate over... lol...

EXACTLY!!:D:D:D

Pointless debate to start off with Fraggles...very unlike you!:D:thumbs:

:whistling:

Fraggle,

Canon produce the best colours from out the box, but the detail is not as good as Nikon produces. Canon is too contrasty...

I've been trying to find a development process to get the colours of Canon but with the detail of Nikon.... its coming, slowly...

Certainly its possible...

The rest is definitely with Nikon - I've got 1D MkIII AF capabilities, good high(er) ISO performance for nothing like 1D MkIII price.

My hope was for the 50D to be my D300, but its not, not even slightly. AF performance in motorsport is king, and Canon fail...
