Nikon v Canon

Those who had high self-brand connections (SBC)—that is, those who follow, research, or simply like a certain brand—were the ones whose self esteem suffered the most when their brands didn’t do well or were criticized. Those with low SBC remained virtually unaffected on a personal level.

The residual effect of this is that those with high SBCs tend to discount negative news about their favorite brands, and sometimes even ignore it altogether in favor of happier thoughts.

Talk about stating the bleedin obvious - if you were really anal about 'following, researching and liking' Canon cameras, you'd hate it when other people point out that Nikons are actually better!:D

People often don't like having their decisions questioned, particularly ones that result in significant time and money investments.
It's perfectly sensible to a degree as it implies your ability to make a judgement is poor. Some people don't need other people's approval but other people turn rather defensive.

I have a black box that pictures :) that's all I care about. I bought a canon cause I didn't like how the Nikon D5000 felt when looking through the viewfinder, felt dull. My 500D was my back up option :)

Load of brown smelly stuff. The more I've learned about the photography, the more I've discovered that the make of camera plays only a minimal part in the results.

The only reason I use Canon is that the last staff job I had supplied me with that make and I'm familiar with it now, and as a freelance own quite a bit of it. It would be ridiculously expensive to change if I was so stupid enough to do so.

Couldn't care less what make I use.

as long as it's not nikon, of course

A common sense reply.

I have to agree with Jon, I use Canon as when I started shooting sports Nikon (any everyone else) had no semi pro option with good ISO performance and continuous shooting. After building up lots of kit I ain't moving without losing a whole bunch of cash.

Would I shoot Nikon, sure, would love a couple of D3x cameras and a nice selection of glass....... but as long as I have something that allows me to get the shot and be creative I'm happy.

Started with Olympus, moved to Canon, was going to upgrade to Canon Rebel (forgot the English model Number) but didn't like the feel so got a Nikon D80.

After you have gotten a few lenses you have to stick or you loose a lot of money.
Happy with Nikon D300..............but then again would be happy with a Canon......Pentax....Sony.......Olympus........any blooming camera that gets the results..........

Now what did that Canon nerd say!!!!!!!!!:naughty:
.
Well said Chris, love the meaty feel of the D300,not a pro model, but next best thing.....

Can't understand camera brand 'fanboys'. Some folk champion Canon or Nikon like they would their favourite football team.

Surely there's enough evidence out there in the form of amazing images to know that anybody worth their salt should be able to get results with either.

BOSCH washing machines rule !

I've always pretty much used Nikons (from film to DSLR).....but am probably going to buy a Canon. I think both can be fine or awful in the right or wrong hands ;)

I suppose that article is a politically correct way of saying

"Ever wonder why certain people always seem to engage in meaningless Canon vs Nikon vs et al. ... Its because they are a complete bunch of cocks and the sort of person that you really, really hope you dont get stuck talking to down the pub" :D

I use a Canon because when I was in the market for a DSLR a friend of mine worked in Jessops and could get VERY good discount and the 400D had just been reduced

Couldn't tell you what a Nikon felt like or even which Nikon cameras are equivalent to which Canon models.......

If I see someone else out with a DSLR I'll check out their gear, if it's a better Canon than mine I look in evny, if it's a lesser model I think how lucky I am........ If they're carrying a Nikon I say to my Fianceé "EEEEUUUWWW.... a dirty Nikon" but only in a take the pee/tongue in cheek way as I find all this Canon vs Nikon "war" bullshoiyte tbh

All that link show is there is very little difference between the two major brands. It all comes down to cost and handling by the individual photographer. As a Nikon owner I can still appreciate the quality that Canon can produce if we are just picking between the two makes. It really is down to what make you start off with, any camera upgrade must be based on the lenses already purchased. Yes occassionally you do read about people jumping ship from one make to the other but not that often.

I like what Nikon produce but there are some lenses Canon have in their range I wish Nikon would do, such as the 100-400mm lens as Nikon only do the 80-400mm but with the old screw drive and that defiantely needs an upgrade. Then again there more than likely are lenses in the Nikon range that Canon owners would like.

I change my gear almost as often as I change my cacks :DSo I should know, that there isn't a big difference in the end result - the pictures!
I've done Sony > Nikon > Canon and now back to Nikon.
For me, personally, I feel that Nikon bodies suit me better.

I think, and it's just my opinion, that Nikon bodies are better than Canon's, but I also think that Canon have much better choice in lenses, and the quality of the Canon lenses are stunning.
Although I've not yet owned a 'high end' if you like, Nikon lens........
