Hi,

I'm more than likely going to buy a D7000.

Just wondered what other D7000 owners have in their bag?
What type of photography you use you camera for ?

If you are going to spend a £1000 on a camera and £???? to fill your bag - shouldn't you be asking yourself:-

"What type of photography you use you camera for ?"
 
If you're really not sure, just get the camera and the kit lens. As you start using the camera and understanding it you'll get a better idea what you need. Although you won't get very far without some memory cards.

I started with a basic dSLR a few months ago and now have a shopping list almost as long as my arm.

Soon to be an owner of a D7000 too, opting to buy body only, going to get a 35mm f1.8g. Chosen that lens as its a light, fast combo capable of shooting crisp images that i can carry around with me everyday. Who needs a zoom, just walk backwards or forwards!

I know what I am planning to do, a variety of:
- Sports
- Portrait
- Landscapes

Would you care to answer the original question?

Kinda my thinking too, especially as the kit lens is relatively cheap with the kit.

I'm planning to get a prime too e.g 50mm 1.8D, but feel i need a zoom for sports.

Cheap & cheerful to start.
With a view to upgrade a few months down the line to one or more of:
35/50mm 1.4
16-85
18-200
70-300

I think I have a rough idea (?), but as I'm so wet behind the ears I'm looking for learned advice.

There seems to be a large cross over in range regarding these three:
16-85
18-200
70-300

Perhaps don't buy the 18- 200mm? :)

I've heard the 16-85 is a cracking lens & the 70-300mm is pretty decent too.

I have a fairly minimal Nikon kit with the D700, 24-70mm, 70-200mm, 50mm F1.4G, 28-300mm and an SB800/900. I mainly use the Nikon setup where the micro 4/3 equipment struggles which is primarily speed and low light, the GH1's AF isn't bad for speed but it's no match for the D700's C-AF nor its high iso.

Buy the camera, with the kit lens and then when you find yourself thinking "that shot would be have been better if I had a lens that was........" THEN you can start looking for stuff to buy, otherwise you'll just end up with a bag full of stuff you don't use.
 
For sports, portraits and landscapes...?
Hmmm...

Old Nikkor 17-35mm f/2.8 or the new 14-24mm f/2.8 for broad landscapes...
Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8, 50mm f/1.4 and 85mm f/1.4 for portraits, wide sports-shots and medium landscape details...
Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8 VR for portraits, sports, and tight landscape details.
Plus maybe a Nikkor 300mm f/2.8 for sports (pitchside team events; running or equestrian events) if the job warrants...

My work varies from journalism and indoor sports to minor events and studio and location portraiture.

I shoot mainly weddings, portraits and boudoir.

Yes, kinda my thinking too...as the kit lens is "relatively cheap" now the price of the D7000 has come down to £1180 across the board.

What is in your bag?

A mix of the kit that Ali and Rob have, although I have a 17-55 rather than the 24-70 as I shoot with APS-C (cropped) sensor cameras (A D300 and a Fuji S5)

Not quite as important to me as to others, but I use two Lowe-Pro bags (big and medium-sized) for cameras, lenses and speedlights, accessories etc. plus a small daysack for power-leads.
If I'm going light, then I drag what I need out of the bags, transfer some kit to the smaller Lowe-Pro and have the rest draped off my shoulders.

If I'm shooting at an event then there's all the Bowens lights, softboxes, umbrellas, reflectors and stuff; backdrops, more power-cables, gaffer-tape, clamps laptops, printers etc. etc. etc.
 
D700, Nikon 24-70 f/2.8, Nikon 105mm VR macro Nikon 50mm f/1.4 and 2 Nissin Di622 flashes housed in a Lowepro backpack. I also have 4-5 Sandisk Ultra or Extreme CF cards from 2GB to 8GB's. Sometimes if I want to travel light I use an old Jessops shoulder bag for just the body and a lens, plus maybe a flash if I can squeeze it in.
Oh and Ive just bought a Black Rapid strap, but Im undecided if I like it or not yet!

Shoot anything really, dont have a specific "thing", although it used to be gig photography but havent done that for a while.

If I'm landscaping I just take the D700, 24-120, 70-300 and 18-35 in a Flipside 400AW and pack it all in a Flipside 200 for city walking.

Also have a D90 plus Tamron 28-75 f2.8 in a Crumpler Muffin Top 2500, but my other half mainly uses that now.

Sounds like a good basic set up.

Just one comment on something to consider adding to your 'possibly get soon' list - a flash? I notice you're going for a 50mm 1.8D - I got one of those myself a few weeks ago. I wanted it as a portrait lens and a low light lens. But I've realised that the places I want to do people shots, especially at this time of year, are mostly indoors. And some of the people are moving (dancing). So I've bought a flash (SB600), use it bounced, and that makes the perfect combo for me.

I've only had my D90 6 weeks but so far in my bag...

1x filter
Cleaning cloth
2 X 4GB SD cards
Card reader
Spare batteries for flash
Notebook and pen

And sometimes - umbrella, bottle of water, purse - and being a girl - lipstick and hairbrush!

It depends on what you're going to shoot. I really wanted to take dancing shots - action shots in low light - so a flash became quite important. I also like portrait shots. So that was two areas where a flash would be useful for me which was enough reason to buy one. (I went for SB600 because it was cheaper and a bit smaller.)
