Hi all,

can anybody tell me the name of the USB connector used on nikon d7000 / d7100 cameras.

Id like to buy a small extension lead and have no idea what to look for?

Hi Steve,

I am using an l bracket which limits access to this socket. I can put a lead in the socket, then when i tighten the l bracket i cannot then remove the lead. Since i use this socket for getting pictures off the camera, for the WU1a wifi dongle, and also remote shutter relaease cables, i would like a short extension lead that would be permanentyly attached when the l bracket was on, that would allow me to plug in the various attachments.

If I understand you correctly, you are implying that you can plug a cable into your camera but once you put your camera on the bracket, the only way to change the cable would be to have to take the camera off the bracket, so you want some kind of a lead that stays plugged into the camera so you can then plug other cables into that lead. Sort of similar to if we have a hard time trying to plug something (lamp, charger, Hoover, etc.) into a wall stocket because of the tight space, so we leave an extension lead plugged in, and use the other end to plug in the something?

Well, unless I'm wrong, you meant something like this http://http://www.amazon.co.uk/USB-male-Female-Extension-Cable/dp/B00077DJKY/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1366716342&sr=8-5&keywords=extension+cable+usb but the problem is that they tend to be longer leads to allow devices to be plugged in while out of reach, I've never known any of them to be very short.

Something like that.

The small end needs to be able to connect to a nikon d7100 (same as d700). The larger end needs to be a female version of the same connector.

Something tells me i maybe looking for a while....

I think those are mini usb rather than the connector used on a nikon d7000 (which i think are called dc dv)

The closest i can get is this (see below for link), but obviously has the wrong female end.

I think im going to have to wait until a proper d7100 l bracket comes out that can easily access the ports...

The USB connector on the d7000 is mini USB which I have linked to. I don't recall them changing it for the d7100

Hi Paul,

ill have to double check but im pretty sure that the connector isn't a mini. I think ive got a lot of old minis at home to check. My old d300 used a mini.

I think its closer to a micro in size, but 'squarer' if that makes sense. Ill also dig out my x100 lead because thee look very similar.

Ah, the penny has just dropped.

You are talking about 2 different sockets on the camera, the USB Mini one is for transferring images and there is a separate Accessory terminal - that's the squarish one used for remote triggers etc.

The thread title threw me a bit :)

Page 3 in the D7000 manual items 14 (USB) and 17 (Accessory Terminal)
