Nikon unveils AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G ***Official Thread***

Purple Fringing is also associated with UV, overexposure and overspill into adjacent pixels on some sensors, so that's only partly true.

I found an old message I posted in a discussion a while ago, which illustrates spherochromatism:
"One of the test images was a slanted close-up of a black and white print at f/2.8. The centre of the image is dead sharp; the top of the image shows a green bloom; the bottom of the image shows a magenta bloom. It seems that the bloom is a by-product of the lens being out of focus (due to the shallow depth of field)."

So, the effect is green or magenta fringing, depending on whether the object is behind or in front of the subject of focus. Contrasting edges behind the subject will tend to have a green bloom.

cool thats great cheers for the explanations! I at least have an idea of what CA is now!

I have a lot to learn and a lot to take in, sometimes I find all the infomation daunting but I guess I'll get it over time.

Im trying to decide on either this lens or 50mm f1.8 but that will be manual focus on my d60... but there is a considerable price difference!

hmmm.. decisions!

The 35mm F1.8G is a good lens to stick on the D40 it makes for a small light travel camera.

It's a strange old lens to bring out especially, as people have mentioned, when full frame seems a big thing for Nikon's market standing. Maybe they're trying to create the 'new' nifty fifty for cropped users

I picked one up from Warehose Express in Norwich in Saturday for about £190 (they still have stock). I've not had much time to play with it but what I have done I really like. and the DoF is fantastic.

Here's a self portrait I took in the carpark on Saturday.

Brian

I ordered the lens from them this morning but never received confirmation via email. I just called them and they said the lens has been shipped yesterday  I felt pretty bad asking them all the details as I didn't want to treat the person as an idiot, but come on :D Apparently they sent me the confirmation at 12.05 but I haven't received anything (yet). Fingers crossed the lens is arriving tomorrow... Woohoo!

Just bought one this afternoon. First impressions are great. really sharp pics and nice bright colours, especially for a gloomy evening indoors.
