Can anyone tell me how Nikon UK operate their warranty?

If I had non-UK originated kit, would they warranty it if I had a recipt from a UK vendor?

I have found a good deal on some of the Nikon gear I want but I have a sneaking suspision that its not-UK kit because despite me asking the question very directly, their answer is evasive.

I know a lot of the bargain discount electronics companies have stock not from the UK (been there done that on phones, computer stuff etc)

So if any of you have direct experience of Nikon on the warranty issue, do tell! Not so interested in third hand speculation...

Yes, if it's been imported into the UK via official channels. Otherwise, no.

I thought I read that with bodies that was the case but lenses were ok.

And how can I find that out?

Guess give Nikon a ring/email... ?

Here's what it says on the Nikon UK website....

Local Warranty

Applies to Digital equipment (digital SLRs, COOLPIX compacts & Coolscan film scanners)

• Your Nikon equipment is guaranteed against any manufacturing defects for one year from the date of purchase
• The warranty card is issued only at the time of original purchase; it is non transferable.
• The warranty card must be presented to the Nikon Service Facility before any repair can be made under warranty.
• Establishing the original purchase date should be made by the original consumer purchase via the sales slips or other evidence.
• Damage caused by accident, misuse, do-it-yourself repairs, sand, grit or water is not covered by this warranty, which is only valid at Nikon Service Centre.
• All mail or transportation costs including insurance are at the expense of the owner. All other claims of any nature are not covered*.
• Warranty for digital product is only valid in the country or region of purchase.

Cameras distributed by Nikon UK Limited and purchased in the United Kingdom or Republic of Ireland after September 1st 2007 (and during the duration of the scheme) qualify for a free one year extension to the Nikon Manufacturer's Warranty, if the purchase is registered with Nikon UK Limited within 30 days of purchase.

Any second year warranty claims must be made to Nikon UK Limited or one of its Authorised Repair Centres before the extended warranty expires.

Your statutory rights are not affected.

**WARNING**
Please be wary of dealers claiming to be able to sell or provide you an international warranty for digital equipment when you are purchasing from overseas, or from importers. THIS IS FALSE . International warranty for these products is unavailable.

Basically, if you buy a Nikon body ffrom an importer or from HK then if you have a warranty issue you would need to take it up with the seller.

Reading that, it would seem to hinge on a UK warranty card I would guess?

I'm guessing that is what distinguishes a Nikon UK distributed product over a non-UK one.

I guess I need to ask my potential vendor that question! Despite them being a UK business, I suspect this stuff must be grey imported because of the price. Mind you, I can't even find a similar price sourcing it from HK direct!

Thanks folks

Simply Electronics...

Whats the name of the place your thinking of buying from, as someone else on here may have experience of using them.

Despite how it may look they aren't even a UK seller, they are based in HK. The guy in the UK flogging the stuff on Fleabay for them is simply dropshipping.....

Yes, their domain appears registered to someone in HK...

If you want a real laugh, have a look at their UK business address...

In particular, check out the address... on google maps... see if on the satellite photo you can spot anything remotely like an idustrial unit... they have just added "Unit 32" as the top line of a residential address....

Unit 32 looks as if it may be the spare bedroom

Anyway, they are only £40 cheaper than Jessops, hardly worth the hassle, especially as you'd lose the 2 year Nikon warranty

Slightly more cheap if you look at their price on D300 + MBD10 grip + SB900 flash....

You get the Nikon UK warranty with the speedlight and (I think) the MB-D10 even if grey, but not with the body

Well, reading that quote from Nikon it does seem to apply to bodies only...

Which is kind of what the rumour mill suggested.

Dunno, I might still go for it, it is V. cheap

I bought my D300 with grip 18-70 and 70-300 VR from Hk.

Company was Digital Rev. They had a no VAT guarantee.

In the end I was charged £32 (I had it all if needed) which they then refunded.

Hmm.. this was my worry. I had been living out in Canada for the past year and bought my D300 and a number of lenses while I was over there, so obviously have Canadian warranties on them. It's not like I was doing a grey import on my camera equipment. I might have to give them a ring about it. Still, if it means I have to take a holiday out to Canada (if worst comes to the worst) to get my camera equipment repaired, then I won't feel too badly done by!
