Nikon Transfer help

Evening,

I'm brand new to photography and have just bought my first SLR. Having managed to take a few shots (the number of options and menus is mind boggling!), I want to transfer them from the camera to the computer.

I've installed Nikon Tranfer and downloaded all the latest updates. When I start the application it finds my Nikon but when I click start trasnfer, nothing happens.
Any help or pointers would be most appreciated and apologies if this a totally novice question :help:

Hi Lee - I use a card reader and find this is the best way to transfer from Compact Flash card (or any other card) to computer rather than connecting my camera up to the pc as you always have to make sure that you have a fully charged battery.
What camera do you have; are you shooting in RAW or jpg; do you have Lightroom or Adobe Elements or CS version for post processing of the images

The camera is a NIKON 300s and my first few pictues were in jpg format, I then changed the settings so the remainder were in RAW. The file name is DCS_'number'.NEF if that makes any difference.

I haven't got a post editing program yet, but I'll probably be going for photoshop and I don't have a card reader either :( .
The battery indicator seems to be full, I fully charged it this morning and have only used the camera for a couple of hours.

I agree with nikonuser as I have always done it that way with my D80 but as I have recently bought a D300S I have installed Nikon Transfer but not used as yet (if I ever will) but having just had a look at it and if you click on options there is a box to tick for Transfer to launch automatically when device is attached. Hope this helps.
 
Lee, if you connect the card reader and wait for a box to pop up then the click on the Nikon Transfer option your pictures should show and you can choose a location to download them to
 
Got it! Thank you for your replies. I didn't see that if you right click on the camera icon you can select which memory slot it sees. :thankyou:
 
glad you sorted it, I would recommend a card reader every time, they are pretty cheap and you aren't chancing any problems with the download of images between camera and computer.
 
Use this on my work PC from software that came with a Nikon compact years ago

Strangely mine only recognises a memory card in the reader that has been formatted in a Nikon camera
