Nikon to face lawsuit over D600?

Many things are pathetic in life, such as trying to get a rise out of someone because it amuses you...but there is clearly strong feelings on behalf of a reasonable number of customers that Nikon has launched a product with an inherent fault that has cost them lost photography, cost of professional cleaning what ever, and they are looking for recourse...the idea that if Nikon loose this is will affect future development detrimentally is frankly laughable...what it might have an effect on is quality control in both development and production though this is limited...where it may have a greater effect in on improved customer services and product support, the reality is...Nikon dropped the ball at least that how it appears to me :(

It will be financially painful if US lawyers get their teeth into it, as it will open the flood gates for typical US punitive rulings that go way beyond the actual recouping of camera costs. You feel that suing Nikon is acceptable? They've been quite reasonable in repairing or replacing any camera found to be faulty. That's all they're actually obliged to do actually. What grounds for a lawsuit do you think there is? Nikon have no more quality control issues than anyone else. Every now and again, a company will release a product that has a production problem. Name me a company that has not? It seems people want some kind of revenge! It's pathetic... they've lost all rationality. Why did they not just send their cameras back for a repair or replacement under warranty? If they DID do that, what exactly are they suing for?

For the life of me, I just can't see the logic in it. It's people throwing their toys out of the pram is all.

why couldn't nikon do a nice thing and replace the D600 with D610 or offer D600 owners with massive discounts for their next body? or even better come up with a solution rather than leaving users dangling and then put out a new version of the body which is almost identical but has the issue fixed...that would be the decent thing to do as opposed to ignoring the issues all together.

actually a solution could well be free cleaning of the sensor for the life for the original owner obviously...can't cost them that much as they just got to pay for shipping cost for the bodies...cheaper than fighting a court battle

Everyone's different. David talks sense.

So what happens to the user who buys one second hand or in month 25?

Warranties only work for a fixed period (or until the annoyed original owner unloads it on a forum or eBay to a unsuspecting person), and a £1000+ camera should be expected to function correctly for a lot longer than 24 months.

Once the D610 was released... in many cases, they did just that.

They had a problem... and they either repaired or replaced the cameras of those who could be arsed making a warranty claim.

I have no idea is the only answer I can give.. obviously. If it's not fit for purpose due to a defect in their manufacturing, it wouldn't surprise me if they have to replace it.

People just like sticking the boot in... victim mentality. The law suit will not stand... there are no grounds to sue that I can see.

This is certainly an odd discussion!
Whether a law suit is the answer I don't know, but I've never seen anyone defend Nikon's p***-terrible quality issues with such vigour!
Anecdotal evidence suggests to me that a large number of D600 were released onto unsuspecting punters in an unacceptable state.
I have had troubles with my D800 which have really made me question my loyalty to the brand.
Fascinating.

This thread was started about a lawsuit question. Now seems to be about the values of a DIY sensor cleaning scenario.

David, you really don't appear able to see how offensive you are to many people here ... is that "personal"?
Yes it is, because many of your comments, such as ones in this thread but also in many others are personally offensive to others, yet you seem incapable of seeing this or you choose to ignore it (unless of course you suffer from Asperger's).

My thought too. (or maybe a teacher?)

I'm not defending Nikon. I'm decrying the pathetic nature of those who think they have a right to begin legal proceedings just because a company made something that had a problem. Nikon were, and still are quite willing to replace or repair under warranty. I'm still waiting for someone to actually tell me what they deserve to be sued for.

Oh FFS!... I'M NOT AT WORK! Those that can do, and those that can't teach huh? Wow.. original. That all you got? Care to put your best work up against mine to test that theory?

Personally, for the most part, i think David talks a lot of sense.
i can see his lack of sugar coating isn't to everybody's taste but it seems some people follow him around on here just to pedantically pick at everything he posts only to get a reaction :runaway:

??? o_O

Just an observation of the way you reply (just your `style` maybe?) which is reminiscent of how teachers tend to talk down to others, or how some people actually can't understand why their tone of reply gets on the t!ts of others. (eg Aspergers)
Not sure what ` Care to put your best work up against mine to test that theory?` means, but why are you so confrontational & lacking in good manners?

That's a fair comment, but always having the `mightier than thou` attitude isn't pleasant reading really.
re `following him around to pick at everything he posts` (trolling as he calls it) seems quite the contrary on here imho

Hey ho, it takes all sorts I guess.

Some people are just different and that's the way it is. Simples.
