Is it me or is there an surge of people switching from Nikon to Canon lately?

I've noticed quite a lot of Nikon kit for sale (here and elsewhere) with the reason being "I'm moving over to Canon equipment...."

there equally as much canon kit for sale i'd imagine....

i use canon personally but cant say ive noticed much in the way on nikon- canon banter of late.

its just a case of some people preferring what canon have to offer over what nikon does....

3ish years ago it seemed like it was the other way round, with Canon users jumping ship.....including yourself!!

People have clearly seen the error of their ways quicker than you have!! :p

I switched from Canon to Nikon, if it helps! Now I'm off to Fuji. I'm a camera hobo...

Nikon to Canon here.

wanted full frame at sub £1000. so has to be second hand, D700 lacks video capabilities, so 5D2 was my only choice.

but I still long for Nikkor, Canon L lenses just doesn't feel as nice as cheaper Nikkors.

I am certainly not changing, but notice that is is otherwise mainly Canon shooters who have replied!

I started out with Nikon, now got an x100 but on Friday I was in Jessops in Cardiff and tried the Nikon D600, D800 and Canon 5D3. The D600 was too small in my hands and out out of the remaining two I like the Canon better so that's what I intend to get very soon.

I switched from Nikon to Canon. I never thought the day would come, I figured I would be a Nikon for life. But actually in use, Canon just suits me better. In my case, the grass was greener. :)

Both are great. It's just a personal decision.

The fact that Nikon have no direct replacement camera for the D700 may explain why a few wedding togs are making the switch to Canon, but that's just a theory.

As for things for sale, maybe Nikon have more new products on the go recently? More existing Nikon users selling stuff and buying/upgrading latest Nikon lenses bodies? Just a thought, and not really aware if Canon have launched a lot of new ranges recently?.....d600, and a few new lenses....

That plus Nikon being better? :) :)

Ho Ho :D

Seriously, there's another in the classifieds this morning - selling all his Nikon kit to go to Canon. It's an epidemic!!

Seems to be a lot of people selling all their kit at the moment as well.

I have debated changing myself, the 5dmkIII looks to be a really nice body in terms of spec.

But after a bit of soul searching I decided to stick with my D700 and hope that at some point Nikon decide to offer a proper direct replacement.

Yup! Have noticed that among a few friends. 5DmkIII is basically the camera that D700 users were hoping for.

I know of quite a few amateurs making the jump to FF by switching from CS canons to the D600 though.

Before getting the 5D3 I thought of switching to Nikon. Main reason was the D800 looked very good for what I do and cost less than 5D3. But in the end I stick with Canon. :)

I used to be a Sony / Nikon shooter but as soon as Sony introduced the EVF it didnt feel right for me and decided to stick with Nikon.

I am in a similar situation but I love my Nikon glass that I am happy to wait at the moment

This!

The 5Dmkiii is exactly what I would have expected, and hoped for, in a D700 replacement.

If I was starting out now and had no ties to either system then I would have gone for the Mkiii over the D600/800. Not to belittle either of the Nikons, but the Mkiii just seems a more versatile body.

The thought has crossed my mind to switch, but its a lot of hassle to change!

I switched from Canon a few months ago (5DC), was looking at either a 5D2 or a D700, at the time the D700 offered more features I wanted over 5D2, I never shoot video with a DSLR.

Now with the D800 and 5D3 out its a more difficult choice, as the MP of the D800 count for and against it. I dont think either for my use is worth the extra £800 over my D700 though, so Ill wait and see.

...or the cheaper version called 5DmkIII which is why you see what you see. I appreciate why D800, or small D600 isn't for everyone.

BTW. Anyone selling a very cheap D3 + D3x? :lol::D

I nearly went Canon to Nikon...I liked the D800, then despite the better ultimate picture quality I felt the canon 5d mk3 was a better all rounder that could do sports etc well, as well as studio work.

It's definitely the 5d mkiii thing. It's specs are so much more versatile which will be appreciated by so many more people.

When I took up photography again, I did alot of research into the canon / nikon argument. I opted for nikon, as they felt a bit more natural to me in my hands and because from what I had seen my opinion was that canon had decided to go the MP route - jam as many in and use it as their main feature to drive sales, at the slight expense of other specs. Whereas nikon were behind a bit in MP count, but seemed to be slightly ahead in other respects such as noise performance and general versatility.

It would appear the tables have turned.

I wanted to go full frame for a while and had I not have been keeping my d90 and been invested in nikon gear already, I probably would have gone for the 5d3. Thought about trading up but wasn't worth it in my case.

However, got the d800 at a "good" price and love it.

I moved from Canon to Nikon. For the money the D3 was perfect and all the pros I know use Nikon so it made sense.

I've gone Canon to Nikon. Couldn't justify the 5Diii so plumped for a D700.

Pleased I made the switch, so far...

people will always jump ship thinking the grass is greener on the other side, i use nikon but always `like` images from canon cameras, and a quick browse on flickr sorts me out cos it dont matter what camera you have its all do with technique, lighting and skill.

Same thing stops me shelling out money and going full frame, i know people on flickr who produce better pictures on basic crop cameras than peeps with full frames can do. One guy i know changed from a crop nikon to a full frame canon, yet looking through his photostream you cant separate the pictures unless you look at the exif, he`s a brilliant photographer.

full frame is brilliant, for the photographers who know how to utilise it.

Nikon or Canon, it dont make a difference.

I think I've seen a number of threads with people jumping either way
I'd jump for the D700 or similar but I like the lenses that I have and it's too expensive.
also I like the look of a 5Dii sometime to compliment my 7D so will stick with Canon.
Either way I think there is no real edge unless you compare one specific body and lens combo to the other.
Main thing is the photographer....other than that...some people might just fancy change

Funny that, a few graphics designers did tell me about the very green colour the Nikon sensors produce and why they prefer canon files

I've heard that it's just a virus. It passes after a couple of days. They will soon realise the mistake that they have made. ;)
I'll never change. Nikon or nothing. It's taken me too long to suss it out!! :D

Kev.
