Nikon to announce a new Nikkor 600mm f/5.6 PF lens soon

Great but too late to save up my pennies now. :)

It should be popular.
An F4 PF would be nice as well.

It will depend hugely on the price. Remember Nikon have a 200-500mm f/5.6 that's very nice, not too heavy, and not much more than £1000.

Yeah but no but. A 600mm f/4 lens has to have a front element that's 150mm or more, and that's going to be big and heavy. Plus it needs to be built solidly enough to support that front element, so that's more weight. Even with the magic PF gubbins, it's still going to be a big and heavy (and therefore expensive) lens. Making it f/5.6 takes a lot of those issues away.

I still don’t understand why Nikon don’t do a 400mm f4, would be an ideal lens for me and at times makes me wish I was a Canon shooter (only for a fleeting moment mind ;))

That's what I meant to say in my post.
