Yes
So I just bought the afore mentioned teleconverter for use on my 300mm f/4 PF and 70-200 f/2.8 ED (the original VR model). From reading compatibility charts it should all work.

My camera is a Nikon Z6 so I'm using an FTZ with both lenses. The camera is capable of f/8 focussing.

But I've only been able to get it to AF with the 300mm f/4 at a reduced aperture of f/8. When using it with the 70-200 I get a lot of VR noises but in the viewfinder I get the aperture going to a Max of f/5.6, as expected bit when trying to take a photo it displays "F--" and won't even try to AF.

The camera is detecting things properly in the exif data and even my SB910 flash shows the corrected focal length.

Am I just unlucky with this combo? Is it expected?

I will probably still keep the TC as I still get 70-200, 300mm and 600mm focal lengths, but having a 140-400 would have been nice for landscapes.

When I was looking to get a 500/4 about 2 years ago, prior to getting a Z8 I was told that matching TCs with the combination I have will be tricky if I had a Mk3 TC attached to a G lens, and a Mk2 TC attached to an E lens....I suspect that if you had the Mk2 TC the issue you have might arise with the 300 but not the 70-200.

I have NOT tried my 500/4 E on my Z8 with a TC yet (as I find it gives me too much reach), and I only have Mk2 1.4 and 1.7, and I don't believe I've tried my 80-400G with a TC on the Z8 either. So I can't help you there....

As for f8 with the 300....at least the newer Nikons are able to focus at that aperture, as older ones are limited to AF at f5.6,

My suggestion would be to try the camera with a combination of your current 70-200 with a Mk2 2x or your Mk3 2x with the 70-200VR2. Sorry I can't be of any more help.

I have a 300mm f4PF and a TC-20Eiii TC and yes, as expected, I get a max aperture of f8.0 (On a Z9)...very quick focusing considering...can't coment on the 70-200 as I've changed it for the Z version, I can't see that it should be a problem though.
