Can anyone help me? I have a Nikon SB800 & an SB600 and used them remotely with my D90, I want to add an additional speedlight into the setup purely for fill in when needed. I would prefer to purchase a secondhand unit but am not sure which models (if any) are compatible with Nikon CLS.

600, 800 and 900 - 600s are the cheapest of the bunch. You have a built in flip up on the 90 I think - so you can use that t trigger the others.

Thanks Lensflare, Yes the D90 will fire the SB 800, I really was trying to source a used unit something like an SB28 rather than buy the SB90, and I was hoping that someone may have some experience and be able to advise.

You have a choice of 3 units to use with CLS - 600-800-900

Thanks AWP, you confirm Lensflares reply, it looks as though I need to buy another SB600 for the job.

Some Metz flashes do, but a quick Google suggests it's not a reliable option - best to stick with Nikon.

If you don't mind walking to th eunit to change the settings, then ANY flashgun set on M or old fashioned A will fire with an optical slave - so the SB26 will work, it just cannot be controlled from the camera and will only do what you tell it.

To prevent the "not bought yet" flash from firing when the signal flash goes off, you can either use FV lock fiddled in the custom menus to the preview button, OR get all the flashes going in manual. The CLS uses a series of pre-flashes to sort themselves out, any non CLS unit will fire when it sees these flashes instead of the main, taking flash.

For simplicity, I would think the extra £60 is worth every penny. If the occassion demands it, you can set all the remote flashes to M from the camera anyway, or any of the other modes. At least you would have compatible units, not one odd man out.
