Nikon Software updates

Hey guys.
ive just got Nikon capture NX.

but it wont read my RAW files because it says it doesnt support the software type.

my dad has a Nikon D200 and is on software version 2.0
but my D80 is version 1.0

is there any way i can update my camera software to 2.0

or would it be better for me to get a plug in for NX to except version 1.0 software ( if possible)

can someone piont me in the right direction please

Just opened my recently bought NX version 1.1 and checked updates - there are none

Then the help file gave me this...

Capture NX provides RAW support to the entire line of Nikon digital cameras that produce NEF RAW files. Supported cameras include:


COOLPIX 5000 D1
COOLPIX 5400 D1X
COOLPIX 5700 D1H
COOLPIX 8400 D2X
COOLPIX 8700 D2Xs
COOLPIX 8800 D2H
D2Hs D50
D70 D70s
D100 D200

I'd go straight to Nikon and ask why the D80 isn't covered?

I got capture NX (trial) with my D80 and it works fine? Although I use photoshop CS2 to process my files.

Where did you get the software from? did you get a registration code for it?

EDIT: yep, it def works with the D80.

very strange! I def shoot in RAW. The files are saved as .NEF files on the card.

They open straight up! :bonk: :bonk:

I can send you the version i've got if you've got a registration key, as you can just enter it from there if you like?

Double T, are you talking about firmware rather than software? The latest firmware is indeed ver 2.0 for the D200 and the latest for your D80 is 1.01. You say that your D80 is on Firmware Version 1 but I doubt that updating it to Ver 1.01 will have any effect with regard to NX.

for info, my capture nx is version 1.1. Not sure if that'll make any difference?

yeah sorry, i mean the firmware.

NX isnt excepting my .NEF files, it just says "could not load file"

It looks like you need Capure NX ver 1.2

Supported cameras:
SLR D1 / D1H / D1X / D100 / D2H / D2Hs / D2x / D2Xs / D200 / D40/ D40x/ D50/ D70 / D70s / D80
COOLPIX 5000 / 5400 / 5700 / 8400 / 8700 / 8800

^^ nope, I've got version 1.1 and a Nikon D80. works fine.

TT, are you copying the files from the memory card to the computer before you try and open them? Just thinking what I do....

yeah dude, ive taken them from the card, onto the pc, dragging the NEF file to NX and get "could not load file"

my d80 is v 1.01
my nx capture is latest, v1.2 ?
i get the same, copy images to 'puter and capture nx wont open them, cs2 does tho
