Currently using PSE7 to process RAW images from my camera. It is trouble free.
I did not install the Nikon software that came with the camera.

Can anyone please say whether there is any advantage to be gained in using Nikon software in place of, or with PSE7?

What software came with it? Nikon Capture NX is very good & dead simple to use, but it doesn't come with UK-purchased cameras.

the nikon software will read the sidecar files that have the in camera settings attachced to them and they also render the images a bit sharper

however the nikon interface was designed by retards :(

Nikon Transfer & View NX came with it.

Funny you should say that.
Years ago when I got a D70 I installed the software that came with it. I found that trying to use it was like being in a maze, hence my initial question.

Blimey - I am just getting started in all this digital processing lark - I was about to buy Nikon Capture NX v2 - Should I not bother:shrug:

Bill

sorry for the hijack -:bonk: I have started a new thread - Please see:thumbs:

I always use Capture NX to process RAW files and find that it does an excellent job but I have never delved deeper than that really. I tend to then take them into Photoshop to do the rest...

I'd be interested to know if there could be any reason why Nikon Capture would be better at processing RAW files than PSE.
Any thoughts?

Hi arclight, from what I understand Nikon don't give out the nuts and bolts of their software to companies like Adobe etc. I think I have read that the files are encrypted in some way whereas Capture has access to 'all' the information. Perhaps someone else can explain better...
