I'm looking for something vaguely similar to my current Canon 24-105 IS F/4L in a Nikon fit.

It can have a smaller or longer range but needs to cover the 24-70 range.

My only constraint is that it needs to be IF - that is to say that the front doesn't move on focusing and constant apertures of F/2.8 or F/4 are preferable.

My budget is around £550 but I'd much prefer something in the £300 range, doesn't have to be new either.

So Nikon fans - any ideas?

There is nothing like that in the Nikon range really with a constant aperture or with VR.

At least I can't think of anything... pretty much anything will be IF though.

There is the Nikon 24-70 f/2.8?

Thanks for the reply 'duck

I'd be ok with a lineup of one or two primes instead I think.

There's nothing even vaguely similar.

The Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 is £900+ new so out of your budget even used.

There are 3rd-party mid-range zooms but none with the combination of focal length range, IS, optical quality and build quality that the Canon delivers.

Hmmm. How can you cover the 24-70mm range with one or two primes?

I think it would help if you could say what your real priorities were.

So I'm finding :'(

I've noticed that, though I'm not looking for an IS equivalent and something with similar optical quality would be ok.

I don't mind Zooming with my feet, I was thinking a 24 a nifty fifty and something in the 70/85 range might work.

Quite right: The 24-105 is the lens most often on my camera, I use it for press work and studio work as well as general walkaboutyness!

A good used Nikon 28-70mm 2.8? Stonker of a lens.
