Nikon sb800 issue

Hi Guys

I have an SB800 Flashgun and it seems to fire away on its own. I has only started to do this recently.

Does anyone know why this is. its just starts to flashe without me doing anything?

Sounds like it's broken.....

Could be rust on the contacts shorting it out. If it's not then it may be serious.

I guess you've done the obvious things like changing batteries and making sure nothing is shorting the pins?

Is it on the camera when it fires? If so you might need to tighten the hotshoe.

I have checked and changed the batteries and no rust anywhere.

I have only seen it do it whilst on the body. I will put batteries in it tonight and see if it does it whilst off the body.
 
Sounds like it's not maintaining proper contact with the hotshoe.

Does it do it without the 5th battery holder?

Does it do it while you're holding the camera, or if you were to put the camera down, would it continue to do it?

Also - does it fire just once, or continually fire? Is there a "pattern" to the firing? IE does it fire at regualar intevals, or is it completely random?
