Right boys 'n girls its like this. My friend Brian [ you know the one,Brian who recently bought a lens the size of my thermos flask & "forgot" to tell his wife]. Well, Brian has a Nikon SB21 ringflash for sale at the "bargain" price of £100. I've tried the kit out on my D50 & after fddling with the settings got some decent results.

The question is do i buy it & what would i use it for?

What do people use their ringflash for- i tried to plug it into the usb on my computer to keep my coffee cup warm but that doesnt seem to work! Obviously it give a shadow free light for macro work & could easily be used for portrait work.

What do people on here use it for & are they happy with the results.

I'm just off to look at the instruction book & have promised an answer tomorrow morning

Look forward to hearing from you

Sounds like a pretty good price - I trialled one last year but couldn't find any real ongoing use for it. It's brilliant for very close up work (product photography and certain types of portraiture) but loses most of its power beyond about 6ft. If it were me for £100, I'd buy it, play with it & sell it on if I end up hardly ever using it.

Thanks Phil for the advice. I am borrowing it for a couple of days to have a play. As you say it appears to be a bargain & gets the grey matter churning as you have to use manual settings

:gag::thinking::shrug:

Did you buy this John B? If so, have you had enough of it yet? My SB21 died last week and I'm looking to replace it. Do you have one to sell?

Alex
