Hi all,

I recently got a used Nikon SB-600 and been learning about taking photos with it. Now I've got a very noob question about the settings when the SB-600 is on my D90...

Settings
SB-600 is in TTL mode
On my D90, my setting for Bracketing/flash is as below:

e) Bracketing/Flash
e1) Flash shutter speed - 1/60
e2) Flash Control for built-in flash - TTL
e3) Modeling Flash - Off
e4) Auto bracketing set - AE & Flash
e5) Auto FP - Off
e6)Bracketing Order - N

Lens I'm trying out is the 18-105 AFS kit lens
Camera is set on P mode

OK enough of the settings details... what I've noticed is that when in P-mode, my exposure settings display as follows:
Shutter - 1/60
Apeture - f4
ISO - 200 (my setting)

Now when I try to change the settings using the rear dial, the settings do not change when the SB-600 is on.
I presume that the flash output strength is being adjusted to ensure correct exposure.

Does this mean that I'm stuck with the shutter of 1/60 and aperture of f4?

Thanks in advance

Well without the flash on, the settings change...to ensure correct exposure..
But it's my first time with the flash head on, so I'm not very sure ...

What are you changing them too with the flash head on? I know that you can't go above a certain sync speed for example (1/200th ish)

well thats the thing... I thought that I could atleast get the shutter speed to 1/125 in P mode... but no changes happen in the settings when I 'twizzle' the dial ... however when I put it on Shutter Priority mode, I can set the max shutter speed to 1/200 (which is normal)

Gonna have to get the manual out !

To the best of my knowledge that's how the D90 is supposed to work in P mode with a flash on.

Ah OK. Thanks Chris. Glad to know its a normal thing. Guess it's back to more learning with the flash.

Use aperture priority - and read the manual!:) start at P 233.
