Hey people, just wondering if anyone has any idea how much a small repair would cost if I sent my camera into nikon? It's covered under warrenty but it's an accidental damage problem.. The small card cover plastic has a chip in it and needs replacing. I could get the spare bit off ebay for £11 but would need to take the camera apart and not sure I woud want to risk it.. Has anyone done a self repair though on a similar model and is it worth it or just send it in? Any ideas please! :):)

One thing I found out is that repairs are never cheap. I bent a pin in my cf slot on my D300 the repair cost £275 luckily enough I have cover! didn't even pay a penny.

It might be worth taking a real close look at the door hinge it might be the same type of pin in a watch strap.

Just one other thing if you dropped it, it might just be worth sending it off as you might have more damage you just can't see yet.

Not sure how relevant this is, but I currently have a D40 with Nikon for repair (it was totally dead) and they quoted me a "fixed price repair cost" of £134 +vat.

When I rang them to query the estimate, they said it would likely cost more if they charged me actual time and parts.
